In business for over 30 years, PBS is the third largest DMS (Dealership Management System) provider to the North American retail automotive industry. The Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Data Governance Specialist to join our team. The Data Governance Specialist will play a key role in developing and implementing data governance frameworks, policies, and procedures to ensure the integrity, availability, and security of our organization's data assets. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to establish data standards, monitor compliance, and drive continuous improvement in data quality and governance practices.

In this role, you will be working very closely with Executive/Senior-Level staff, you will have superior relationship building skills and the ability to actively listen and establish trust.

This role will be based in our Calgary Headquarters office. This is not a remote work opportunity.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement data governance strategies, policies, and procedures to ensure the effective management of organizational data assets.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders across the organization to define data governance requirements and standards, including data classification, data quality, data privacy, and data security.
  • Establish data governance frameworks and processes to monitor and enforce compliance with regulatory requirements (e.g., GDPR, CCPA) and industry best practices.
  • Design and implement data quality assessment frameworks and metrics to measure and improve the accuracy, completeness, and consistency of data.
  • Partner with data stewards and data owners to identify and resolve data quality issues, data anomalies, and data inconsistencies.
  • Conduct regular audits and assessments of data governance processes and controls to identify areas for improvement and mitigate risks.
  • Provide guidance and support to business units in the development and implementation of data governance policies, procedures, and controls.
  • Develop and deliver training programs and workshops to raise awareness and promote understanding of data governance principles and practices across the organization.
  • Develop an inventory of the data within the organization and devise a reduction strategy.
  • Manage and enforce retention policies.
  • Stay informed about emerging trends, technologies, and regulatory requirements in data governance and data management disciplines.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, or a related field.
  • 2-3 years’ experience in data governance, data management, or a related field.
  • Strong understanding of data governance principles, data quality management, and data privacy regulations.
  • Experience with data governance frameworks and tools
  • Familiarity with regulatory requirements such as GDPR, CCPA, HIPAA, and SOX.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Superior relationship building skills; ability to collaborate effectively with senior level staff.
  • Ability to actively listen and establish trust in senior level staff.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Relevant certifications (e.g., CDMP, DGSP, CIMP) are an asset.
