Waypoints offers facilities, programs and services for people that have experienced, or are experiencing domestic violence and/or abuse, sexual assault and/or abuse, and homelessness. Waypoints also provides the community with public awareness events, initiatives and educational programs to increase the prevention of violence, abuse and homelessness in the Wood Buffalo Region. Waypoints operates Unity House, an Emergency Women and Children's Shelter, the Opportunities for Change Centre, The Sexual Assault and Abuse Healing Centre, and The Compass, home of our Second Stage Shelter for women and children in need of secure transitional housing, as well as housing for the homeless and affordable housing.

POSITION SUMMARY:

To provide clinical support to children and adolescents who have experienced or been exposed to traumatic events. This will include individual, family and group counselling as clinically appropriate. Through this role, you will assist children with processing the event and developing coping skills, which will assist them in the future.

Position Profile:

  • Permanent Full-time, Monday to Friday (37.5 hours per week).
  • Some overtime and some weekends.
  • Some travel within the municipality of Wood Buffalo.
  • Rate of pay is $43.45/hour. and annual rate is $84,727 plus $12,480 COLA.

Type of Clients:

  • Ages 3 years and older and on a case by case basis.

Direct Supervisor:

  • Second Stage Manager.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide individuals, group and family counselling to children, parents and families that have been affected by domestic violence and/or sexual assault and abuse in the RMWB area.
  • Provide evidence based treatment to children and adolescents who have experienced or been exposed to domestic and sexual violence. Address related behavioural and mental health concerns. This may include work with parents or caregivers to best support the client.
  • Provide assessment, treatment planning and implementation, and participates in discharge planning.
  • Inform and support Second Stage manager, Shelter Manager and case conferencing with staff regarding components of the client’s individualized treatment plan, when necessary.
  • Act as an educational and supportive resource to staff and clients in areas of child development and the impact of trauma on children.
  • Experience in delivering culturally sensitive services.

Additional Skills:

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to generate and maintain necessary reports and stats in a timely manner.
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality guidelines of all records, materials and communications concerning clients; perform administrative tasks; use computer applications.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum, Masters Degree in Social Work, Counselling Psychology or other related field from a recognized university.
  • Current Registration with a recognized professional college or association in Alberta is required.
  • Training in evidence based modalities for children, adolescents and families required. Training and experience in EMDR, Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Play Therapy, or Structural Family Therapy would be an asset.
  • Minimum 3 years of clinical work with children.
  • Area of Counselling Specialization: Sexual abuse, domestic violence and trauma recovery, Stress management, Crisis intervention, Cross cultural issues, Mental Health, Anger management, Anxiety/panic.
  • Valid Class 5 driver’s license.

Security and Safety: RCMP Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Check
Intervention Record Check.
