Position Summary:

Reporting to the Director, Mortgage Originations. our Mortgage Underwriters are energetic team players who have solid backgrounds in the “Alt A and B” residential mortgage business. They are clear communicators who can maintain broker relationships, while also problem-solving complex loans to ensure they within regulatory compliance.

Major Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Effective “pipeline management” to ensure documentation is received on time
  • Assessing up to 6 mortgage applications per day, evaluating broker’s documentation and recommending mortgage applications by assessing customer's credit history, collateral and income or ability to pay within established guidelines
  • Fulfilling all conditions required and communicating remaining conditions with the brokers in a timely fashion
  • Providing excellent customer service, including efficient turnaround time to brokers, while building and maintaining positive working relationships
  • Work in collaboration with your Underwriting team to ensure targets are being met and exceeded
  • Staying informed of latest industry knowledge including: B20, AML (Anti-Money Laundering) and KYC (Know Your Customer) legislation

Degrees, Diplomas & Certifications:

  • The position requires undergraduate or graduate degree in related field

Years and Range of Experience Required to Perform the Job:

  • With a college degree or diploma, the position requires at least 3 years’ experience underwriting in the residential mortgage lending industry, preferably in the “Alt A and Alt B” business
  • The position requires strong understanding of residential mortgage review, regulatory legislation (B20, AML and KYC) and the proven ability to make sound underwriting decisions.
  • The position requires proven ability to clearly communicate with mortgage brokers; maintain successful relationships that include negotiation and sales skills, strong organization, time management and multi-tasking skills
  • Comfortable using Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Word, underwriting and servicing software platforms or Delta 360
