Meridia is happy to partner with MLE in their search for a Lead Mechanical Engineer to join their team in their new office in Bedford, Nova Scotia.
Role Description
As the Lead Mechanical Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in managing the team and will be responsible for handling multiple projects on various timelines. You will provide technical expertise, ensuring that projects are executed to the highest standards, and managerial support, delegating and managing team workloads, acting as a mentor to staff, and building and maintaining internal and external relationships.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Providing technical expertise including consulting and design in mechanical and plumbing building systems.
- Evaluating and selecting designs that prioritize reliability, cost-effectiveness, and operational efficiency.
- Responding to RFIs, producing CCOs, and creating mechanical sketches as required during construction.
- Reviewing General Contractor progress claims and extra costs related to mechanical work based on CCOs.
- Performing periodic site reviews and preparing reports on contractor performance related to drawings and specifications.
- Organizing meetings with internal disciplines, external consultants, clients, contractors, subcontractors, and vendors/fabricators for effective collaboration.
- Reviewing close-out materials, including operation and maintenance manuals, balancing reports, and start-up reports.
Your Qualifications
With experience in project management, you are able to effectively manage staff and a wide range of projects. You have a relevant educational background in engineering and experience that make you great at problem-solving and decision-making. You are passionate about working to build a better community and providing top-notch results to clients.
Your qualifications include:
- Relevant years of experience in HVAC design or building system design.
- Bachelor of engineering or applied science in mechanical engineering or equivalent.
- Registration or eligibility for registration with Engineers Nova Scotia.
- Experience in project management, working on projects from early conceptual to detailed engineering; project start-up and operations support is an asset.
- Experience working with AutoCAD for design purposes.
- Understanding of multi-unit residential, commercial, and institutional construction an asset.
- High attention to detail and strong organizational skills, including time management, file management, and planning.
- Flexible and adaptable problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work well in a diverse team environment.
