Architecture49 is seeking a Conservation Architect to join our CENTRUS Centre Block Rehabilitation team located in downtown Ottawa.  As a Conservation Architect you will be actively involved in progressing the heritage design scope and applying internationally recognized conservation best practices to advance design solutions in a multi-disciplinary environment. 

The Centre Block Rehabilitation Project is a complex long-term heritage renovation, rehabilitation, and rejuvenation project of national interest within the Parliamentary Precinct.  Over the next several years, Centre Block will be extensively renovated to repair, upgrade and replace various crucial components of the building, influencing the way the Parliament works for the next 100 years.

A day in the life…

The ideal candidate will assume, under the supervision of the Project Manager, the following responsibilities:  

  • Preparation and coordination of construction/contract documents.  
  • Participate in the coordination/management of internal and external consultants, and other stakeholders:  execute coordination meetings, communicate directly with Project Manager, keep the team focused on required tasks, maintain design intent for the specific project.  
  • Conduct heritage/conservation surveys and studies.  
  • Report writing.  
  • Conduct quality assurance and quality control on all project documents for compliance with office standards, client, stakeholder, and authorities' requirements.  
  • Site review, supervision and follow-up during construction.  
  • Other interesting challenges. 

 What you’ll bring to A49…

  • University degree Architecture and specialised training and experience in Heritage Conservation.  
  • 5 years’ experience in Heritage Conservation.  
  • Licensed in Ontario or have the ability to be licensed.
  • Proficient in Revit, and MS Office Suite.  
  • Strong interpersonal skills – motivating, influencing the team to meet or exceed goals in a positive manner.  
  • Experience working in multidisciplinary teams.  
  • Ability to manage multiple files simultaneously.  
  • Ability to work with autonomy, initiative, and rigour.  
  • Knowledge of current codes and regulations.  
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.  
  • Proficiency in French an asset (written and spoken)
