Underwriter II // 1 Year Contract // Hybrid // Insurance ClientTypical Day in Role: • Accurately analyze group characteristics and input plan design detail, employee data, premium, claims and rate history in PlanLink to create an attractive, professional new business proposal within the stated turnaround time of 24 hours • Possess strong knowledge of group benefits in order to interpret Advisor specifications or current carrier contracts to fit Manulife’s plan design features • Review final proposal output including rates to ensure accuracy and responsibility of final action. • Provide underwriting decisions through clear verbal and written communications • Conduct constructive negotiations utilizing underwriting judgment and guidelines • Evaluate and act on risk propositions • Provide value added underwriting and benefit recommendations to maximize the clients' group benefit spend. Candidate Requirements/Must Have Skills: 1) Strong Mathematical Aptitude – candidate will be converting percentage to factors, applying multiple percentage adjustments onto a rate etc. 2) PC Skills: Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel (ability to apply basic formulas, intermediate) 3) 1-2 years previous experience in a customer service oriented role - demonstrated strong customer service skills with the ability to negotiate with Advisors, Account Executives and Head office partners 4) Ability to handle high volumes, fluctuating workloads and multiple priorities within set time constraints Nice-To-Have Skills: 1) Demonstrated knowledge of and experience with Group Life and Health concepts, benefits and products 2) Previous underwriting experience is an asset, as is enrollment in or completion of LOMA, HIAA, or CEBS.
