What You Will Do With Us

As the Wire Department Lead Hand based in Mississauga ON, you will assist in the following duties:

1. Team leadership

• Coordinates and oversees the execution of all activities within the Wire department, balancing workload across resources, to satisfy daily commitments and complete maintenance activities.
• Creates a daily schedule / activity checklist for each Team Member, defining expected volumes for both direct and indirect activities as orders drop.
• Creates a Saturday activity checklist, prioritizing inventory replenishment and area maintenance, and assigns activities to each of the scheduled Team Members.
• Reviews results from the previous day, addresses variances with the Team Members, and sets action plans to minimize recurrence.
• Coaches Team Members proactively and as variances occurs, following up on execution results to ensure permanent improvements.
• Updates the Supervisor on any variances and action plans taken; and updates the Microsoft Teams Wire Results folder before 11am.
• Identifies bottlenecks and process issues; and works with the Shift Supervisor or DC Manager to define and implement an improved process.
• Owns results and variances in the Wire department, engaging and motivating Team Members to create an environment of close collaboration across shifts.
• Coordinate with Admin whenever there are resource constraints and commitment may not be 100% achieved, for them to contact the customer/branch and minimize impact.
• Other duties as assigned by the Shift Supervisor or DC Manager.

2. Order fulfillment

• Reviews all wire cut orders provided by dispatch, prioritizing them in the order (and date) the cut should be completed.
• Reviews assigned unit # for each order and make changes in AS400, according to the location and main cut line availability. To be completed before assigning an order to a cutter.
• Assigns a specific number of cuts to each Team Member, following productivity requirements and commitment dates.
• Proactively sets up reels with assigned quantities in the main cutting line, to maximize the Team Members’ cutting time.
• When needed, assists in cutting wire to meet daily commitments, as well as emergency situations.
• Ensures the correct spindles are used when loading the wire (refer to Wire and Cable Spindle Identification posting).

3. Department maintenance (daily)

• Maintains wire inventory accuracy through daily cycle counts and inventory adjustment, within approved limits.
• Maintains completeness of daily wire put away (within 24 hours), by identifying the daily volume and assigning sufficient time based on productivity requirements.
• Identifies reels in the cutting rack with less than a specific unassigned quantity, assigns a Team Member to complete and document the rewind, and assigns a unit # for replenishment.
• Ensures daily operator inspections are done on all wire machines.
• Maintains a suitable inventory of empty reels to ensure that various sizes are always available for specific cables and lengths (fiber cable, building wire, etc).
• Ensures all Housekeeping standards are met, and Health and Safety protocols are followed, paying close attention to use of all required PPE (hard hats, safety footwear, gloves, safety glasses).

4. Department maintenance (weekly / monthly)

• Loads wire racks using the list provided weekly by the DC Manager, to ensure fast moving wire is always on the cutting rack.
• Executes the weekly removal of Wire Scrap, as per the Rexel Wire Scrap procedure (Admin Procedure #6071).
• Ensure that Wire Machine Calibrations are performed monthly and appropriately documented.
• Ensure there are enough counter wire heads as backups, to avoid down time due to equipment failures and reactive maintenance.

Who Are You

• You have Grade 12 education or equivalent.
• You have a minimum of 3 years experience operating a reach truck or in a similar role within a Distribution Centre.
• You have proficient computer skills, including MS Excel, Word and Outlook.
• You can operate a Raymond Reach, Forklift and\/or Cherry Picker.
• You have demonstrated knowledge of Health and Safety practices within a Distribution Centre.
