HOURS: Full-time,40 hours weekly, overtime as required

SUMMARY: The Heavy Duty Mechanic will play a crucial role in ensuring the reliability and functionality of our equipment in support of our operational efficiency. They are responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining equipment and vehicles, including forklifts, within all facilities. They may also perform preventive maintenance, and other miscellaneous facilities tasks as required. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Forklift maintenance and repairs.
    • Conduct inspections regularly to identify preventative maintenance requirements.
    • Utilize expertise in forklift repair, addressing mechanical issues and performing routine maintenance.
    • Troubleshoot and repair forklift components such as hydraulics, brakes, and electrical systems.
    • Troubleshoot machine issues, identify required repairs and part requirements, then execute repairs for both diesel, propane and electric forklifts.
  • Perform diagnostic tests on heavy-duty equipment to identify issues.
  • Execute repairs on engines, transmissions, brakes, and other mechanical systems.
  • Conduct regular inspections to identify preventive maintenance needs.
  • Troubleshoot and repair forklift components, such as hydraulics, brakes, and electrical systems.
  • Conduct routine maintenance tasks to ensure equipment reliability.
  • Collaborate with the maintenance team to develop and implement preventive maintenance schedules.
  • Utilize the onsite Preventative Maintenance program to complete assigned work, and enter new requests for repairs, parts, follow-up work, etc.
  • Maintain accurate records of repairs, inspections, and maintenance activities.
  • Create detailed reports on the condition of equipment and recommended repairs.
  • Adhere to safety guidelines and protocols during all repair and maintenance activities.
  • Identify and address safety concerns promptly.
  • Work collaboratively with other mechanics and maintenance personnel.
  • Provide support and guidance to junior mechanics as needed. 
  • Participate in safety audits, hazard analysis and identification, and contribute to the development of safety protocols.
  • Ensure that quality standards and standard operating procedures are always followed.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Ability to lift up to 65lbs frequently (includes low-level, waist level and above shoulder lifting).
  • Ability to carry/push/pull up to 100lbs frequently.
  • Forceful gripping.
  • Work in confined spaces.
  • Excellent eyesight and depth perception. Prescription eye correction is mandatory for those who require it.
  • Standing for extended periods (+8hrs).
  • Sitting for extended periods. 
  • Walking short distances frequently, at times on uneven surfaces. 
  • Occasional work at heights.
  • Frequent bending, kneeling, and climbing (stairs/ladders).
  • Frequent work in a high noise level environment with appropriate PPE. 

ADDITIONAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Display appropriate work ethics in the workplace and group settings which provides a positive influence on company workers/co-workers.
  • Follows all company policies and procedures. 
  • Works as part of a team to maximize productivity and efficiency.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Working predominantly within a manufacturing environment, with outside work required occasionally.
  • Exposure to seasonal temperature changes (heat/cold), loud noises, and moving machinery.
  • Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) in the manufacturing facility to include but not limited to, gloves, safety glasses, steel toe foot protection, hearing protection, and hard hats.
  • Jewelry, loose fitting clothing (including ties, drawstrings, long hair (not secured), etc.) are not permitted. 

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

  • 2-5 years as a heavy-duty mechanic, preferably in a similar industry. 
  • Diagnostic tools & systems for troubleshooting
  • Preventive maintenance practices.

  • Tools Required to be provided by employee:
    • Hex key set (metric & standard), combination wrench set (metric & standard), adjustable wrenches (6” & 10”), 6” calipers, socket set (metric and standard), screwdriver set, tape measure, needle nose pliers, utility or pocketknife, flashlight/inspection light, mobile tool bag or kit (pack-out backpack), steel ruler 6” long, center punch set, feeler gauges, combination square, micrometer, torpedo level, dead blow hammer, dial indicators, bore gauges.
  • Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) to include but not limited to, coveralls, safety glasses, steel toe foot protection, hearing protection, Kevlar sleeves and hard hats.

KNOWLEDGE

  • Machine design, tools, and maintenance.
  • Diesel & gas engines, transmissions, hydraulics, and electrical systems.
  • Proficient with computerized maintenance management software (CMMS)

LANGUAGE SKILLS

  • Oral comprehension and expression; Must speak, read, and write in English equivalent to the OECD Level 3 or higher.

MATHMATICAL SKILLS

  • Ability to perform advanced mathematical equations with precision and accuracy. Numeracy skills equivalent to the OECD Level 4 or higher. 
  • Accurately read a tape measure.
