The Opportunity

The Immigration Services Branch (ISB) is seeking a permanent Director. The Director plays an important role in supporting employers to meet Saskatchewan's current and future labour market needs and economic development goals. 

The Director is responsible for the administration and operation of the Saskatchewan Immigrant Nominee Program (SINP) program categories for internationally trained workers applying to become a permanent resident of the province. The SINP supports Saskatchewan’s economic growth by attracting internationally trained workers to meet ongoing labour market demand; and attracting entrepreneur immigrants to help address business succession needs, increase job opportunities, and expand products and services.

Reporting to the Executive Director, this position will:

  • lead the development, enhancement and implementation of policies and projects designed to support the objectives of the ISB;
  • effectively administer and evaluate processes and procedures to achieve program targets and stated outcomes for application and case processing and client services;
  • monitor risk trends and work to mitigate and prevent program risks; and
  • lead, inspire and coach a diverse team to achieve Ministry goals related to client service excellence, innovation and continuous improvement, and a strong one-team approach.

The successful candidate will be an innovative leader who is able to:

  • demonstrate extensive problem-solving skills in order to identify issues, evaluate the environment, undertake analysis, and develop and communicate recommendations to lead and support change initiatives in the ministry and across government;
  • understand the role of the ministry and programs, and work collaboratively with other ministries and agencies to achieve common solutions;
  • lead a high-performing team while promoting a positive work environment;
  • excel in a fast-paced work environment;
  • manage and establish priorities among competing interests; and
  • analyze issues to achieve solutions; and achieve policy, planning and program outcomes through collaboration with key stakeholders.

Typically, the knowledge and experience required to achieve the above is obtained through:

  • a university level degree in Business Administration, Economics, Commerce, Social Science or a related field, including leadership and management experience;
  • knowledge of accountability and performance management frameworks required to ensure delivery of desired outcomes;
  • knowledge of effective leadership, management, and administration approaches in the public sector; and
  • knowledge of government decision-making and legislative processes. 

Domestic travel and international travel may be required.
