The Institute for Urban Indigenous Health (IUIH) leads the development, planning and delivery of comprehensive primary health care for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people living in South East Queensland.
Our Allied Health teams are dedicated to supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people across South East Queensland in their journey. We offer several services within the IUIH network to Our Community including Exercise Physiology, Occupational Therapy, Audiology, Dietetics, Podiatry, Physiotherapy, Speech Pathology, Diabetes Education and much more.
About the Role?
As an Accredited Exercise Physiologist with the IUIH you will be responsible for providing prescription, programming, rehabilitation, and behavior change and support to the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Community in SEQ. Services include one on one consults in various environments including gym, hydrotherapy, home visits and outdoor locations as well as the delivery of the Work It Out Program, a self-management program for clients with chronic disease. The successful candidate will need to travel to our Head Office in Windsor once a week. The primary objectives are to provide direct culturally appropriate exercise physiology services to the community as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
Within this role, you will be required to:
- Provide person centered care in a meaningful way that encourages and prioritizes time to connect with clients to determine best practice outcomes.
- Triage service delivery needs with the client e.g., one on one or group support options.
- Work closely with member service staff including General Practitioners, Aboriginal Health Workers, Community Liaison Officers and the greater Allied Health Team to support clients in an integrated way.
- Contribute to a dynamic team with leadership opportunities available in the form of member service led initiatives, clinical discussions, team meetings, joint projects, student and trainee supervision and continuous quality improvement of services.
- Work in a fast paced, continually evolving organisation in response to community need.
About You?
- Current C Class Drivers Licence (QLD)
- Current Criminal History Check
- Valid Blue Card - Working with Children Check (Must have prior to commencement)
- Valid Yellow Card - Disability Worker Screening Check (Must have prior to commencement)
- Current First Aid and CPR Certificate
- Current Accreditation registration with Exercise & Sport Science Australia (ESSA)
- Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people are strongly encouraged to apply
Desirable, but not mandatory:
- Previous experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and/or communities
