Working with an energetic and high-performing team, this position offers a variety of work and will see you involved in:

  1. Completing condition assessments for various facilities including report writing and participation in client meetings.
  2. Preparing detailed design drawing packages for projects of varying scale, including some of the following:
    1. Utility interconnection
    2. Substation design support
    3. Electrical system protection and coordination including power system studies
    4. MV power distribution
    5. MV motor control
    6. Standby power systems design
    7. LV power distribution
    8. LV motor control
    9. Instrumentation and Control
    10. Building services (lighting, security, fire alarm systems)
    11. DC systems
    12. Grounding
    13. Equipment layouts
  3. Completion and review of electrical design calculations.
  4. Electrical systems modeling using ETAP, SKM, or Easy Power.
  5. Interior and Exterior Lighting systems modeling.
  6. Preparation of contract documentation including equipment specifications, cable/conduit schedules, installation specifications, equipment procurement documents, sub-contractor requisitions, scope-of-work, bill-of-materials, and process narratives.
  7. Working as part of and potentially leading the electrical project team throughout project phases and monitoring schedule, quality of deliverables, and budgets.
  8. Support during tendering and construction including responding to RFIs, assisting GHD and client site personnel, reviewing shop drawings, evaluating electrical reports (short circuit, protective device coordination, arc flash, ground potential rise (GPR), harmonics, etc), completing site inspections, preparing testing plans, preparation and evaluation of change orders and participation in project meetings.
  9. Preparing and leading electrical-specific meetings with clients presenting design options, system functionality, etc.
  10. Coordination of electrical system designs with other engineering disciplines (process, mechanical, civil, structural, vendors, and outside design team members). Providing direction to and coordination with the internal designers/draftersteam.
  11. Ensuring compliance with electrical codes and standards, relevant industry standards, and regulations. Coordination and liaison with clients and approving authorities.
  12. Support GHD design teams in the US as well as Western Canada.

What you will bring to the team:

  1. Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering.
  2. Must be a registered member of the Professional Engineers of Ontario and possess a PEng. license. (Mandatory)
  3. Engineering licenses or registration with relevant organizations in other provinces as well as in US states will be considered an asset.
  4. 5-10 years of experience involved in the design and implementation of electrical systems including power distribution, standby power & generators, motors and drives, and lighting, as well as a solid understanding of field instrumentation and automated equipment integration. (Mandatory)
  5. Fire Alarm systems design experience will be considered an asset.
  6. Excellent knowledge of Canadian electrical codes and standards, US codes and standards, and relevant industry standards and regulations.
  7. Strong analytical skills. Demonstrated ability to pay attention to detail and continual diligence to follow-up. Ability to exercise sound judgment.
  8. Self-motivated, with a strong desire to learn.
  9. Well organized, able to multi-task and lead multiple projects. Strong organizational, interpersonal, and written/oral communication skills.
  10. Ability to be a part of multi-functional teams with the ability to relate well and cooperate with other members of the team, to effectively coordinate activities and accomplish goals.
  11. G class driver’s license is considered an asset.
