As our Business Intelligence Platform and Operations Lead, you’ll play a leading role in ensuring our tools are fit for purpose and data is available to meet our business needs.

Leading a team of talented BI professionals, you’ll be responsible for managing and maintaining the SAS, Power BI and ThoughtSpot environments within the organisation, ensuring that platforms and content on those platforms are available to the business in-line with agreed SLAs.

As a people leader, you’ll manage, coach and mentor a team of 4-8 individuals to ensure they deliver to the required quality and integrity. You’ll put in place platform roadmaps to ensure we are continually evolving our BI platforms and will be responsible for all aspects of the operational performance and availability of the platform. You will lead the engagement with virtual communities of BI practitioners across the organisation, and crucially you’ll be responsible for the operational provision of BI content on a daily basis in-line with service levels.

Ideally, you'll live within a commutable distance from our offices in either Salford Quays, Manchester, Haywards Heath, West Sussex or Guernsey but don’t worry if you don’t - we're open to remote workers We’re big on flexible working, so you'll spend most of your time working from home with a visit to the office when required, but of course, it’s your choice - if you prefer to be in the office more - that's good with us too.

Core skills we’re looking for to succeed in the role:

  • Leadership: You’ll be an experienced Leader with a demonstrable 5+ years’ experience leading and mentoring teams.
  • SAS Platform Management: With in-depth expertise in SAS Platform Management (ideally 5+ years) you’ll excel in this role.
  • SAS and Power BI Technical skills: You’ll need to showcase your proven 5+ years of experience.
  • Stakeholder Management: You’ll thrive in stakeholder management, backed by robust communication skills.

Whats involved:

  • You’ll own the BI tooling roadmap and strategy inputs, and in conjunction with the Architecture team will evolve the technical BI architecture, as we migrate to Cloud (Azure Data Platform).
  • You’ll be responsible for the availability and quality of the overall Business Intelligence platform(s), ensuring appropriate controls are in place for data accuracy, consistency, and reliability of timely and accurate information in reports for management decision-making purposes.
  • You’ll lead the BI platform product team, defining the backlog, prioritising the work, effectively engaging your stakeholders and ensuring a continual improvement of the product.
  • You’ll be responsible for the operational management and provision of business wide BI content (Reports, Dashboards, Datasets) on a daily basis, including the timely resolution of issues, communicating effectively with all recipients of the service, leading root cause analysis and incident management.
  • You’ll lead and people manage a team of Senior BI developers, BI developers, BI platform administrators, and contractors where appropriate, fostering a collaborative and productive team environment.
  • You’ll design and manage BI platform security, usage standards, and implement appropriate governance for federated BI Self-Service across the organisation.
  • You’ll proactively monitor the health and performance of BI Platforms by developing effective monitoring mechanisms and be relentless in platform usage and performance to support enhanced efficiency.
  • You’ll coach and mentor technical staff across the BI community to adopt industry best practices and continuously improve standards within the organisation, supported by training on report development, operational processes, data models and new features.
  • You’ll coordinate and manage project timelines, resources, risks, and budgets to stakeholders.
  • You’ll ensure compliance with company and other relevant standards / regulations at all times (e.g. Data Security and Data Governance frameworks).

Experience & knowledge:

  • Extensive hands-on platform administration experience of large-scale business wide SAS and Power BI platforms (00’s of users).
  • Extensive experience of designing and building end to end business wide BI solutions.
  • Experience coaching, mentoring and managing a team.
  • Exceptional at building strong, effective relationships with people from different disciplines.
  • Experience of using agile and DevOps working practices in a business intelligence environment.
  • Good understanding of data warehousing and business intelligence tools, SAS, SQL and Power BI.
  • Alerting and monitoring – Experience of improving the health of a Business Intelligence platform, such as setting up alerts to monitor unexpected data latency or KPIs that fail to meet data quality thresholds.
  • Strategy – Experience building and executing roadmaps, that align with company goals.
  • Problem solving and Incident Management – Experience troubleshooting and fixing issues in existing reports, conducting the root cause analysis and implementing preventative measures to avoid future instances.
  • Stakeholder management – Experience managing stakeholders of various levels, proactively keeping them updated on multiple requests with a fast-moving set of changing priorities.
  • Keen and active interest in the use of data in the wider industry, with practical knowledge and networks.
