Job Description
JOB IS LOCATED IN RENFREW, ON

Primary Purpose: Responsible for management of site health, safety and environmental systems focusing on employee H&S and site environmental performance and improvement. As a member of the Site Leadership Team, provide support and leadership to the site through implementation of HSE programs, procedures, and education initiatives focused on compliance assurance, incident reduction, and risk mitigation.

HSE duties/responsibilities:

Responsible for HSE program at the Renfrew plant.
Facilitate implementation of HSE annual objectives & improvement plans in conjunction with site operations management and business unit HSE Manager.
Facilitate implementation of new or revised policies and regulations in conjunction with site operations management and business unit HSE Manager.
Facilitate the completion of all environmental permits and program requirements specific to the site.
Maintain records and or reports as required by Ministry of Environment Community and Parks (MOECP)
Report, enter and submit environmental sustainability information in ESG program in Intelex monthly
Management of site ISO 14001 Environmental Management System
Act as an effective organizational coach and mentor which fosters and sustains a safe work culture
Undertake at regular intervals audits/inspections of the site (including inspections of machinery, equipment in use, and work systems in operation) with site operations management to ensure compliance with corporate polices and HSE regulations. Where appropriate, develop appropriate corrective and preventive actions with operations team.
Identify site HSE training needs, develop appropriate resources, and execute training sessions for employees and management staff as required.
Organize and facilitate site safety committee meetings (Joint health and Safety Committee).
Support site supervisors with the investigation of HSE incidents at the site. Where necessary, lead investigation process and/or collaborate with appropriate corporate staff on serious incidents.
Communicate HSE incidents and corrective actions in a timely, thorough, and effective manner.
Partner with Human Resources to monitor the status of all open Workers Compensation claims and coordinate activities to minimize lost and/or restricted work days.
Conduct risk assessments and implement corrective actions.
Track and monitor site HSE Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and communicate trends to management team as needed to drive performance.
Maintain HSE records to ensure adherence to corporate polices and/or regulatory requirements. Includes, but not limited to, incident records, safety metrics, training, inspections, permits, etc.
Advise project management staff on HSE requirements in the design, introduction, use and decommissioning of manufacturing processes, equipment, and materials
Assist where necessary with various external agencies or resources (Government Agencies, Group insurers, etc.)
Participate in daily Gemba walks on the production floor with management team.
Conduct monthly inspections per MOECP or other agency requirements

In depth knowledge of HSE regulations including MOECP, and local requirements
Knowledge and experience with relevant consensus standards such as NFPA and ANSI,
and systems such as ISO 14001

Ability to communicate effectively with a variety of internal and external contacts
Joint Health Safety Committee certified in Ontario,

Education: Bachelor’s degree and 2+ years HSE experience in a manufacturing setting or equivalent experience

Physical Requirements:

Abilites: kneel, bend, squat, stoop, carry, reach, stand, grip, push, pull, arm extensions and perform elevated work.
Ability to lift 50 pounds.
Abilility to work a flexible schedule.
Pulmonary Function Test & respirator fit test required
Working at heights (approx. ~100 ft) / climbing ladders
Ability to stand and walk for up to 10 hours at a time.

Work Environment

Ability to work in hot, cold or wet environments
