Postdoctoral Fellow Positions with the nEXO Experiment

Two postdoctoral fellow positions are available at the University of Windsor. The successful candidates will join the nEXO Collaboration towards a search for neutrinoless double beta decay (0vBB).
The nEXO detector is designed to use a time projection chamber (TPC) filled with 5000 kg of enriched liquid xenon (LXe). Its predecessor, EXO-200 completed operations in 2018 having made the first observation of 136Xe double beta decay and set stringent limits in the 0vBB mode. The ultra-clean environment and multiparameter nature of LXe TPCs provides a rich data set with publication of several physics results and an active on-going analysis group. nEXO is building on this technology to probe the full inverted ordering of neutrino masses with potential to discover new physics.
The nEXO research group at the University of Windsor is building one of the world's most sensitive laboratories to assay radon contamination in prospective components for the nEXO detector. The group also has strong participation in nEXO simulations and analysis of EXO-200 data. The successful candidates will take leading roles in one of these areas:
- Radioactive Background Control - Radon: This position is in collaboration with Laurentian University and SNOLAB. Demonstrated experience is required in detector development and ultra-low backgrounds. Experience in radon mitigation and in radiochemistry are assets.
- nEXO Simulations and EXO-200 Data Analysis - Deep Learning: Demonstrated experience is required with Geant4, ROOT and deep learning packages. Experience in the development of detectors dedicated to the search of rare events are assets.
Candidates must hold a recent Ph.D. degree, or obtain one by the time of employment, in experimental particle physics or a related field. Good communication skills and ease of participating in team work is expected.
These are full-time positions with a one-year contract and annual salary based on the successful candidate's experience. The position is renewable on a yearly basis, based on performance and funding.
