Job Description

The Junior Planner supports project planning, scheduling, and project controls activities throughout the project lifecycle. Working closely with the Project Controls Lead, Senior planners, Project Managers, and Contractors, the Junior Planner assists in developing, maintaining, and analyzing integrated project schedules to ensure successful project execution. The role contributes to schedule performance monitoring, risk analysis, earned value management, and reporting to support informed project decision-making.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the creation, maintenance, and updating of integrated project schedules using industry-standard scheduling tools.
  • Coordinate schedule inputs from various stakeholders, including contractors, consultants, and project team members.
  • Prepare and maintain labour histograms, resource forecasts, and manpower plans to support project execution.
  • Monitor project progress against approved baselines and identify schedule variances, delays, and recovery opportunities.
  • Perform schedule analysis including critical path analysis, float analysis, and resource-loaded schedule reviews.
  • Assist in the implementation and reporting of Earned Value Management (EVM) metrics and performance indicators.
  • Analyze contractor schedules, testing and commissioning schedules, and provide recommendations to project leadership.
  • Prepare project planning reports, dashboards, and performance updates for management and stakeholders.
  • Participate in project meetings and present schedule updates, risks, constraints, and recovery strategies.
  • Maintain planning documentation, assumptions logs, and schedule change records.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives within project controls and planning processes.

Qualifications

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or diploma in Engineering, Construction Management, Project Management, Business, Supply Chain, or a related discipline.
  • 2 to 5 years of experience in project planning, scheduling, project controls.
  • Internship, co-op, or project support experience within construction, energy, utilities, mining, infrastructure, or industrial projects is considered an asset.

Required Skills

  • Basic understanding of project scheduling principles and project controls methodologies.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Knowledge of Primavera P6, Microsoft Project, or similar scheduling software.
  • Familiarity with Earned Value Management (EVM) concepts and reporting.
  • Understanding of WBS, CBS, resource loading, and schedule development techniques.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent organizational and time-management abilities.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to interpret project drawings, execution plans, and contractor schedules.
  • High attention to detail and accuracy.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Exposure to schedule risk analysis tools such as Primavera Risk Analysis or similar software.
  • Knowledge of project controls, cost management, and forecasting principles.
  • CAPM, PMP, PMI-SP, AACE, or other project management certifications are considered assets.
