Ottawa, ON, Canada National Research Council of Canada Full-time $84,000 - $117,000/year

Advance smart battery systems through embedded sensing and power electronics research as a full-time, on-site NRC postdoctoral fellow. Develop hardware and software for electrified transportation.

This two-year postdoctoral fellowship makes you the primary researcher for NRC’s next-generation battery management system. You will expand a flexible BMS platform, integrate fiber Bragg grating sensors, and develop active cell balancing. The work supports energy storage research and produces working hardware.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Expand NRC’s battery management system hardware and software
  • Embed FBG sensor arrays into battery modules
  • Connect sensors for real-time thermal mapping
  • Develop and benchmark active cell-balancing hardware
  • Publish, present, and pursue patents from research

Requirements:

  • PhD in electrical, mechanical, or related engineering
  • Research experience in energy storage, power electronics, or embedded systems
  • Programming experience with Python, MATLAB, or C/C++
  • PhD obtained within three years or completion within six months
  • Ability to work full-time physically at the NRC location

Apply battery research, embedded sensing, and power electronics expertise to NRC’s next-generation BMS platform.
