BC Children's Hospital

4480 Oak Street, Vancouver, BC V6H 3V4

British Columbia Children's Hospital is seeking a fellowship trained pediatric plastic and reconstructive surgeon interested in a career at a pediatric academic health science center with a focus on excellence in clinical care, teaching and research. Sub-specialty training and experience in pediatric craniofacial surgery will be an asset but is not an absolute requirement for this position.

Qualifications

Applicants should be eligible for specialty certification by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and must be eligible for registration with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of British Columbia.

The successful candidate will fill a new, full-time contract position at British Columbia Children's Hospital, joining a team of seven full or part-time pediatric plastic surgeons. This candidate will have a broad range of competencies in pediatric plastic surgery to enable full participation in a combined craniofacial and general pediatric plastic surgery practice including hands, burns, vascular anomalies and trauma, and will be recommended for an appointment to the University of British Columbia's Department of Surgery (Division of Plastic Surgery) at a rank commensurate with qualifications and experience.

A background or advanced training in clinical research, quality improvement or surgical education is desirable.

Candidates with inclusive leadership and management skills, and interest in supporting career development of others may wish to be considered for appointment as Head of the Division of Pediatric Plastic Surgery. Candidates interested in this leadership position should indicate this in their application.

Contact

Applications including a cover letter, CV, the names, ranks and contact information of three referees, including current Division or Department Head, should be directed to Health Match BC. Applications will be accepted until a suitable candidate has been found.

About BC Children's Hospital

BC Children's Hospital (BCCH) provides care for the most seriously ill or injured children and youth from across British Columbia. BC Children's Hospital is part of the Provincial Health Services Authority (PHSA), which plans, manages and evaluates specialized health services with the BC health authorities to provide equitable and cost-effective health care for people throughout the province. Our values reflect our commitment to excellence and include: Respect people – Be compassionate – Dare to innovate – Cultivate partnerships – Serve with purpose.

BC Children's Hospital and the University of British Columbia are committed to employment equity and hire on the basis of merit. We recognize that our ability to provide the best care for our diverse patient populations relies on a rich diversity of skills, knowledge, background and experience, and value a safe, inclusive and welcoming environment. We encourage all qualified applicants to apply; however, Canadian citizens and permanent residents of Canada will be given priority.

One of PHSA's North Star priorities is to eradicate Indigenous-specific racism, which includes dismantling barriers to health care employment at every level. We welcome Indigenous individuals to apply and/or contact the Sanya'kula Team (Indigenous Recruitment & Employee Experience) for support.

Indigenous-specific anti-racism initiatives are rooted in addressing the unique forms of discrimination, historical and ongoing injustices, and marginalization faced by Indigenous peoples. These initiatives align with an Indigenous rights-based approach, recognizing the inherent rights and self-determination of Indigenous communities. PHSA must uphold legislative obligations and provincial commitments found in the foundational documents such as including Truth & Reconciliation Commission's Calls to Action (2015), In Plain Sight (2020), BC's Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (2019), United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP), Reclaiming Power and Place Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women & Girls Calls for Justice (2019), the Declaration Act Action Plan and Remembering Keegan: A First Nations Case Study.
