Job Responsibilities:

Daily Tasks

  • Subcontractor management: approve estimates, answer queries, approve required documents, and manage the contract to ensure that work is being completed on budget and on schedule, and facilitate discussions and meetings.
  • Project management: plan and prepare material requirements; prepare budget and schedule estimates; prepare reports and design specifications as related to your discipline.
  • Major equipment management: supervise and inspect major equipment arrangement changes and entry into service as related to the discipline.
  • Supervise technicians, technologists, and other engineers to review and approve drawings, calculations, and cost estimates as needed.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable laws and standards such as but not limited to rules and regulations of the Classification Society, IMO, and Transport Canada.
  • Communicate with the production line team during the fabrication phase, to identify adjustments or modifications to be made in the cutting and assembly plans according to the discipline needs.
  • Utilize drawing software; perform intact and damage situation stability calculations, and other calculations relating to the discipline, as needed.

Project Management

  • Develop and maintain procedures for planning, organizing, and completing all engineering operation.
  • Ensure compliance with the agreed procedures for planning, organizing, and completing all engineering operations.
  • Ensure that all relevant Engineering procedures and work instructions are available, understood, implemented, and updated as per standard operating procedures.
  • Develop and cultivate a communication strategy between the Engineering team, the operations management, and the client, as needed.
  • Ensure a smooth flow of operations though the Engineering department.
  • Assist in the process of providing suitable training for technicians, technologists, and other engineers.

Health, Safety & Environment

  • Ensure that you and anyone for whom you are responsible (employees, clients, vendors, etc.) understand the importance of workplace culture regarding OHS and provide the team with the necessary leadership to foster that culture within their everyday activities.
  • Continually promote OHS awareness within your team and the corporation by leading by example and providing instruction, information, training, and supervision to ensure the safe performance of the technicians, technologists and other engineers, and all other employees involved in your daily operations.
  • Resolve any OHS issues brought to your attention in a timely manner and notify the HSE team of the issue immediately.
  • Respond appropriately to any violations of the OHS policy and notify the OHS team of the issue immediately.
  • Ensure that environmental policies are respected in all construction and repair projects.
  • Ensure the security of facilities of the Estimation department and equipment and institute policies that will prevent or minimize loss, theft, vandalism, or other damage.


Required Skills:​​​

  • Recognized degree / diploma in an approved engineering discipline.
  • Five (5) or more years of relevant experience.
  • Experience of working in an industrial environment / shipyard is considered an asset.
  • Knowledge of the regulations of the Classification Society and Transport Canada is considered an asset.
  • Be organized, meet deadlines and be able to work under pressure.
  • Strong ability to work within a team and work closely with clients, vendors and regulatory bodies.
  • Good knowledge of MS Office.
