Located in the heart of Parkdale for over 45 years, Parkdale Activity-Recreation Centre (PARC) began in 1977 when a group of volunteers observed the large number of adults living in Parkdale rooming and boarding houses. Many were survivors of the psychiatric system, had little money, few family contacts and no real place to go and connect with peers. On March 17,1980 PARC opened its doors as a pilot community mental health program. Our passion for providing member-driven programming, employment, food security, social space and safe supportive affordable housing, has evolved and grown to meet our members’ needs for nearly five decades. You are invited to visit us at PARC to learn more about our work in the community. https://parc.on.ca/PARC is currently seeking candidates with a particular emphasis on financial management and leadership skills to join our Board by appointment as Board Treasurer beginning winter 2025-26 through September 2026, and, pending election by our members, serving a two-year term through September 2028. Our Board Directors provide thoughtful leadership in areas such as policy, strategic planning, and fiduciary accountability.Board Directors play a central role in advancing PARC’s mission. As we continue to progress on our current strategic priorities with a focus re-imagining how we work;Building our member community;Strengthening supportive housing; and,Embedding equity and reconciliation.We invite candidate applications from those who are deeply committed to PARC’s values and dedication to advancing these strategic priorities together.This is a primarily virtual role, with some in-person meetings. The Board Treasurer is also the ex-officio Chair of the Finance Committee, and may expect investing 10-12 voluntary hours per month, including board meetings and committees’ work, and active participation in town halls and other members’ meetings.Through this experience, successful candidates can expect to gain and practice community shaping governance and leadership skills; work collaboratively with like-minded volunteers; increase the Corporation’s capacity in financial literacy and stewardship; and expand opportunities to collaborate with PARC partners, our local community and neighbours to deliver on our mission.At their core, ideal Board candidates will demonstrate many of the following skills or experiences:Bring a positive track record of community leadership and active participation on a non-profit board of directors or similar organization;Understand PARC’s mission; non-profit financial management and leadership;Understanding of healthcare/mental health/supportive housing sectors;Experience in Change Management and/or Leadership Management.Submissions may be accepted until the Board Treasurer position is full.
