The Labour Relations Specialist is responsible for managing all labour relations activities across the company’s unionized operations in British Columbia. Serving as the main point of contact for day-to-day union communications, the Specialist handles grievances, investigations, disciplinary matters, and arbitration preparation while ensuring consistent interpretation and application of collective agreements.This role provides guidance and support to regional and site management on a broad range of labour relations issues and works closely with the Vice President, Human Resources and Health, Safety, and Environment to identify and resolve workplace issues proactively. While collective bargaining is led by the Vice President, the Specialist plays a key supporting role in preparing background materials, gathering data, and ensuring compliance with negotiated outcomes. Key ResponsibilitiesAct as the primary contact for daily communication with union representatives and business agents.Administer grievances, including investigation, documentation, response preparation, and resolution.Conduct investigations involving unionized employees in collaboration with management and HR.Support discipline and termination processes to ensure compliance with collective agreements and legislation.Prepare and coordinate arbitration files, including evidence compilation and scheduling.Provide guidance to management on interpreting and applying collective agreements.Identify potential labour relations issues and recommend proactive solutions to mitigate risk.Monitor and interpret changes to employment and labour legislation to ensure compliance.Support training and development initiatives for managers and supervisors on unionized workplace practices.Maintain organized and confidential records of grievances, investigations, and arbitrations. QualificationsMinimum 3+ years of progressive experience in labour relations, including at least 1 year in a unionized, multi-site environment.Strong knowledge of employment and labour legislation, grievance and arbitration procedures, and collective agreement interpretation.Proven ability to build effective relationships with management and union representatives.Excellent communication, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills.Strong attention to detail, organization, and documentation.Ability to handle sensitive matters with discretion and sound judgment.Overnight provincial travel may be required.Valid driver’s licence.
