Position Overview As a member of the Invest Alberta Corporation (IAC) team, reporting to the Managing Director, Alberta, this role will collaborate with team members provincially, nationally and internationally to promote Alberta as a key investment destination in the energy sector. You will nurture and design approaches for identified new investment opportunities for the province, building strategy and roadmaps that support final investment decisions. This role is expected to liaise with all internal and external partners in the ecosystem, both at home and abroad. You demonstrate a passion for finding solutions to unique problems, working through a network of key influencers and leaders of businesses in the energy industry. The ideal candidate will drive growth with entrepreneurial thinking and have a highly self-motivated attitude. Responsibilities Sector Leadership and Client Advisory Building and maintaining strong connections, collaborative relationships, and networks across the organization and externally in the energy sector to secure, retain and expand commercial investment in Alberta, supporting the promotion of Alberta opportunities and success stories. Creating proposals and pitches for investors by working collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders in recommending strategies and tools for investment attraction. Manage and/or support the investment opportunity, from ideation to final investment decision and project launch. Assist with or manage investor visits, including hosting international investors. Being creative in building solutions for clients and encourage investment decisions. Conducting market research to identify client needs and potential roadblocks. Working with cross-functional teams including marketing, communications, investor services, global partnerships or policy and engagement to build the strategies needed for client decision making. Maintaining up-to-date records for all files and interactions in IAC’s Client Relationship Management software (Salesforce). Delivering presentations to clients, and external audiences. Providing consistent, high quality and responsive service to investors, supporting them in achieving success. Utilizing social media tools for commercial promotion and to generate new business opportunities. Represent the industry externally by attending conferences, speaking on panels, etc. about sector-specific topics. Team Focus Acting as an in-market resource to the global IAC team by sharing market intelligence, policy developments and fostering an understanding of areas of opportunity. Develop and communicate subsector propositions for global Invest Alberta colleagues. Developing, maintaining, and strengthening connections and professional working relationships across the organization and its larger network, supporting an effective corporate culture. Leveraging technology to improve organization, communications, and efficiency, effectively handling confidential information and data, collecting, and distributing information to senior-level internal and external clients. Maintaining current knowledge of energy sector developments and trends, including policies and regulations. Qualifications A degree in a related field, combined with a minimum of six years of progressively responsible and diverse business development or international investment experience in a professional environment. Extensive client service experience. Demonstrated success in delivering results with an entrepreneurial spirit of self-confidence and a positive, self-motivated approach. Knowledge and prior experience in the energy sectors of Alberta is required. Knowledge of key economic sectors of the province of Alberta is a bonus. Experience working with client relationship management (CRM) systems (Salesforce). An established network that you can use and access to ensure success. Experience working for a government agency in an investment or trade related role is an asset. Demonstrated project management skills. Experience managing events and/or working on high level visits. Fluency in English; other languages are an asset. Excellent collaborator and communicator in written and verbal form.
