The Windsor, Ontario office of Miller Canfield LLP is currently seeking a highly motivated junior to mid-level associate to join our Wills and Estates Group. The successful applicant will work closely with leading lawyers and be involved in all aspects of the Wills and Estates Group practice.

Key Requirements


The ideal candidate will have the following professional qualifications:

  • At least 5 years of post-call experience with a focus on Wills, Estates and Trusts;
  • Excellent academic and professional credentials;
  • Membership in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario;
  • Strong analytical, oral and written communication and drafting skills;
  • A demonstrated commitment to teamwork and client service excellence: and
  • Prior experience with contentious proceedings, estate disputed, and estate litigation is an asset.


Key Responsibilities


Key responsibilities will include:

  • Conducting a full review of all ongoing matters related to Wills and Estates Group;
  • Drafting wills, trusts, and other estate planning documents to ensure that client assets are distributed according to their wishes;
  • Providing guidance on probate proceedings, estate administration, and resolving disputed among beneficiaries;
  • Advising clients to minimize estate taxes, establishing powers of attorney, and creating healthcare directives to help clients plan for their future of their assets; Instructing staff and ensuring that files continue to progress;
  • Managing files where approriate with assistance from senior counsel;
  • Assisting senior counsel with complex matters;
  • Keeping consistent notes and records of all matters;
  • Conducting research and assisting litigation counsel with estate litigation matters, as appropriate.
