Student CounsellorNunavut Arctic College, Cambridge Bay, NUSalary: $105,574 to $119,818 per annum, 37.5 hours/weekNorthern Allowance: $20,891Housing: Subsidized staff housing availableReporting to the Director, Learner Services, the Student Counsellor provides a full complement of personal counselling and guidance services to students attending Nunavut Arctic College (NAC) on the campus assigned. The incumbent will promote mental wellness to students and their families, by providing counselling services to those in need and creating / implementing programming that supports student success.Other key responsibilities of the position include:Ensuring that each student has every opportunity to achieve personal and professional success; Developing mental health workshops (handling stress, team building, quality of life, etc.);Providing distance counselling support to the Community Learning Centres in the region;Assisting in the delivery of student development and personal life management programs; Liaising with community agencies and services, high schools and post-secondary institutions; andOrganizing and participating in Student Success Week.The knowledge, skills, and abilities required for this position are usually obtained through the completion of an undergraduate degree concentrating in psychology, mental health, counselling, or other related discipline and a minimum of 1 year of experience working in a counselling role, preferably in a post-secondary environment. Assets include a master’s degree in counselling psychology or similar field, formal education and experience in career counselling, personal counselling, crisis counselling and cross-cultural counselling, experience working with multi-and cross-cultural issues, and experience in organizing and facilitating workshops.This is a Highly Sensitive Position and a satisfactory Criminal Record Check, along with a clear Vulnerable Sector Check is required.The Official Languages of Nunavut are Inuktut, English and French.
