Introduction

The Department of Economic Development, Investment, Trade and Natural Resources is seeking a qualified candidate to fill the position of Trainer (RX1), within the Western and Northern Manitoba Unit under Workforce Development and Training Division. Certificate or Diploma in Adult Education or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.  Demonstrated knowledge of adult learning principles, with experience designing and delivering training programs to diverse adult learners groups. Carpentry and/or trades experience Advanced verbal communication skills to clearly communicate detailed information and facilitate instructional and/or training programs. Ability to take initiative and work independently under minimal supervision. Strong leadership skills to effectively manage diverse class learning activities. Exceptional interpersonal skills to effectively build and maintain strong working relationships with a variety of individuals. Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage a complex workload while meeting competing deadlines. Excellent written communication skills. Experience with interpretation and application of legislation, policy, and procedures. Proficiency working with MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel), and other computerized database applications Duties: Reporting to the Regional Manager of Training and Employment Services, Western and Northern Manitoba Branch, the trainer provides short term classroom instruction and project based learning opportunities for clients. The Trainer is responsible for creating an environment that will engage groups of learners who have had a variety of past experiences and achievements in learning situations.

The Trainer is responsible for the following:
• Develops trades-related training programs utilizing a variety of instructional methodologies applicable to needs and skill levels of learners
• Ensures clients with different academic achievement levels are able to understand and incorporate concepts and skills being taught
• Provides essential skills, trades and safe work instruction to learners to ensure success in the workplace
• Evaluates learners' progress utilizing learning benchmarks and provides recommendations regarding employment readiness and/or suitability for other programs and services
• Supervises learners in completion of assigned training activities to provide positive feedback and evaluate learners' additional learning or remedial requirements
• Liaises with partner organizations (government, employers, community partners) regarding skills needed and innovations in the industry to incorporate into training curriculum
• Conducts accurate cost estimates for training projects
