The Ministry of Arts, Culture and Status of Women has an exciting opportunity and is looking for a Senior Interpreter to join our team 

Reporting to the Coordinator of Visitor Services, the Senior Interpreter ensures the preservation and presentation of the history, science and significance of the Frank Slide Interpretive Centre (FSIC) and Leitch Collieries Provincial Historic Site by providing a quality interpretive experience for all visitors. Under the direction of the Coordinator of Visitor Services and, working within the policies and procedures established by the Ministry, Division and Branch, this position is responsible for delivering program services at the Frank Slide Interpretive Centre and Leitch Collieries Provincial Historic Site, including public interactive programs, education programs, sleepover programs and distance learning programs.

This Senior Interpreter assists the Coordinator of Visitor Services in the the recruitment, selection, training, coaching and evaluation of interpreters who deliver education and interpretive programs, information services and general visitor services. This position will take the lead role in organizing bookings for the facility and scheduling of staff to meet general visitor and pre-booked group needs. The Senior Interpreter will also be responsible for the planning and implementation of special events at the Frank Slide Interpretive Centre and Leitch Collieries Provincial Historic Site.

Key Responsibilities:

work with colleagues to help plan, coordinate, and deliver public and educational programming for the Frank Slide Interpretive Centre and Leitch Collieries Provincial Historic Site. promote the themes of FSIC through public programming and communicating the heritage values of the interpretive centre to provincial, national and international visitors. Establish and maintain beneficial relationships with community stakeholder organizations, including community groups, regional and provincial tourism organizations, other heritage organizations and tourism attractions and other stakeholders who may have special interest in the Centre. Provide direct leadership to the contract interpreters at the site.  Embrace appropriate technologies to improve internal operations and enhance the visitor experience. Create a supportive environment by empowering site staff, volunteers and other workers to use their creativity.
