A day in the life:
A hydraulic modeller plays a pivotal role in the management and design of water-related infrastructure. Their day begins with the intricate task of developing and calibrating models for wastewater collection and water distribution systems, ensuring that these critical systems function efficiently. They delve into technical analysis and design studies, laying the groundwork for robust infrastructure solutions. Report preparation is a key aspect of their job, documenting their findings and recommendations in a clear and concise manner.
The modeller also engages in the production of maps using GIS and modelling software, which are essential for reporting and presentations. They manage vast amounts of asset data, maintaining the integrity and accessibility of large computer models. Establishing and refining hydraulic modelling and mapping standards is crucial for consistency and quality throughout project delivery.
Collaboration is at the heart of their work; they join forces with a multi-disciplinary team to conduct servicing and feasibility studies, contributing their expertise to a collective goal. They support the design of land development and municipal servicing projects, working closely with intermediate staff to ensure alignment with project objectives.
