Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO) manages Canadas fisheries and safeguards its waters. Through our services and programs, we contribute to the safety, security and accessibility of the countrys waterways using sound science, forward-looking policy, and operational and service excellence. DFO protects Canadas oceans, freshwater, and aquatic ecosystems and species, from the negative impact of humans and invasive species. This is proudly accomplished through sound science, and in collaboration with Indigenous communities.

Science Branch ensures Canadas fisheries, including aquaculture, are protected, managed sustainably and support Indigenous participation. Members of this dynamic group support strong economic growth in our marine and fisheries sectors, contribute to innovative research in aquaculture and biotechnology, and are instrumental in our clean and healthy environments and sustainable aquatic ecosystems. When you apply to this selection process, you are not applying for a specific job, but to an inventory for future vacancies with Fisheries and Oceans Canada in the Gulf Region. In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)

EDUCATION
Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution with specialization in a natural, physical or applied science with specialization in a field relevant to the duties of the position.

ESSENTIAL EXPERIENCE
Experience in scientific field work and/or laboratory work.
Experience assessing, synthesizing or analyzing information from a variety of sources on issues related to the management or conservation of natural resources.
Experience in coordinating working teams and project with internal or external partners.
Experience in development and preparation of methodology for analysis of biological samples.

BI-03 POSITIONS ONLY
Experience in managing financial and/or material resources.
Experience in assigning and/or supervising the work of others.
Experience developing and providing science based advice for decision-making purposes.
Experience in the preparation, writing, leading of scientific research proposals.
Experience in peer reviewed science for primary publications and/or reports.

EDUCATION
Post-graduate degree from a recognized university in a natural, physical or applied science with specialization in a field relevant to the duties of the position.

For Supervisory positions : Bilingual Imperative or Non-Imperative (CBC/CBC).

An imperative appointment process means that a person must meet the language requirements at the time of appointment

Operational requirements (For certain positions)
Valid drivers license or mobility to the extent of the possession of a valid driver's license.
Willingness and ability to work flexible hours and overtime.
Willingness and ability to work at sea for prolonged periods of time in various weather conditions.
Willingness and ability to travel by air, land or by sea.
SCUBA diving certification.
Electrofishing certification.
Pleasure Craft Operator certification and/or Small Vessel Operator Proficiency certification.

Conditions of employment

Reliability Status security clearance

For certain positions:
Valid Health Canada Medical.
Valid drivers license or mobility to the extent of the possession of a valid driver's license.
Work flexible hours and overtime as required, including evenings and weekends.
Work at sea or in the field for prolonged periods of time in various weather conditions.
Work aboard various platforms including small planes and boats of various sizes.
Drive large pick-up trucks and tow trailers.
Travel.

Step 1: Application

Step 2: Other Asset Qualifications

Following the initial screening, candidates will receive a document with a list of other asset requirements. They will be required to identify the assets they have and return the document in a timely manner.

Step 3: Job Matching
As positions become available, the hiring manager will establish the other assets requirements candidate would need in order to be successful in the role.

Upon identifying the requirements for a given position, we will review the responses to the other assets questions. If experience conditions met what the hiring manager is looking for, we will contact you to:

Step 4: Examen
A written examination may be administered.
A practical test may be administered.
A situational exercise may be administered.
