Job Information

As the Unit Clerk in Long Term Care and Extended Care, you are an important member of the healthcare team, providing clinical, administrative, and clerical support to ensure efficient unit operation. In this role you will coordinate and implement administrative activities, liaising with external resources as needed, and work collaboratively with healthcare professionals to provide patient care. The Unit Clerk role demands excellent organizational skills, flexibility, and the ability to stay focused in a fast-paced and dynamic environment. You must be able to remain calm, flexible, and culturally sensitive when dealing with upset patients, co-workers, and healthcare providers. Overall, this is an exciting opportunity to be a gatekeeper and coordinator of information and activities in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.

The ideal candidate should possess knowledge of medical terminology and customer service skills for interacting with clients while maintaining confidentiality. Effective communication skills are also necessary to convey complex health information to diverse individuals. Organizational and computer skills are crucial, as well as the ability to multitask and coordinate administrative activities. Additionally, a commitment to diversity, inclusion, cultural awareness, and workplace safety is essential. Maintaining patient records and learning health-based information systems are also required skills.

Typically, the above qualifications would be attained by:
Grade 12 (High School/ Secondary School Diploma), a medical terminology course and a minimum of six (6) months experience in an office or customer service environment.
