Who we're looking for:
We're seeking an Equipment Engineering Specialist for Core Networks based out of our Brampton or other Rogers locations. The candidate will be a results-oriented individual with industry knowledge and technology experience who would be accountable for developing and managing the release of Detailed Design Packages (DDPs) from high-level engineering plans, guidelines and other source documents working from various teams under the Technology organization.
The Equipment Engineering Specialist will work very closely with the regional HUB Implementation Specialist assigned to the project's implementation to ensure that all required site-level details are provided for the successful completion of the projects. This position will focus on projects related to Core Networks at the regional and intra-regional (national) levels.
What you'll do:
- Plan and allocate space, power and connectivity for current and future network equipment deployments.
- Design and issue Detail Design Packages (DDPs) to regional Network Implementation (NI) for physical deployment of equipment within Rogers sites, third-party POPs, data centres and customer environments.
- Use design tools like AutoCAD and asset management systems (spatialNET) to input and update planning and build records as required, including circuit propagation to meet CLFI requirements.
- Prepare Bill of Materials (BOM) and purchase of equipment on a per-project basis via Rogers tools (K2, NIO).
- Combine Outside Plant (OSP) layer details from upstream departments (fibre designs, splice packages, etc.) with Inside Plant (ISP) designs, ensuring viable end-to-end solutions and designs.
- Provide technical support to downstream implementation teams where required.
- Visit Hub and remote sites, completing site surveys for equipment installation and demarcation.
- Provide project updates in workflow tools (Remedy, Jira) and Project management meetings.
- Generate purchase orders for contractors, delegate tasks, and ensure contracted design and records input are completed accurately and up to standards before invoicing.
- Remain current with the latest company and industry technologies, policies and standards.
- A strong understanding of all IP, Server, Cloud, Voice, Video, and Optical Transport technologies, including high-level competency in passive optical designs (CWDM/DWDM/*PON) and corresponding active technologies.
- Expert knowledge of Inside Plant (ISP) design and construction best practices, including telco hotels with building Meet-Me-Rooms (MMR), data centre colo environments, and associated demarcation standards.
- Practical Head End or Data Center experience.
- A strong background in fibre design, testing, and troubleshooting is an asset when working collaboratively with other teams.
- Working level ability with Autocad (spatialNET).
- Proficient with Microsoft Office and the associated software, including Visio.
- Operations experience is a vital asset.
- Self-motivated, organized and able to work independently and in teams.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, including attention to detail and implementing ideas.
- A valid driver's license.
