Role Responsibilities
Are you passionate about communication technology and emergency response?
The Ministry of Forestry, Parks, and Tourism is currently seeking Wildfire Communication Technician to provide frontline support, operations, and maintenance for area and provincial telecommunication networks and sub-systems in Calgary.
As a Wildfire Communication Technician, you would be responsible for:
• Designing, setting up, and maintaining all radio, data, and voice communications during wildfire and other emergency incidents
• Performing daily operational tests and measurements to ensure systems are effective and stable
• Completing the radio frequency plan, monitoring, communicating, and modifying it to maintain the needs within the incident scope and scale
• Maintaining a unit log with asset inventory, system and network designs
• Protecting a large capital investment and ensuring networks and systems are available when needed
• Managing a comprehensive preventative maintenance program for 150 Firenet, 11 Dispatch Centre’s, 127 Fixed Detection, and 130+ Alberta First Responders Radio Communication System Sites
• Responding to outages, degradations, and general operational concerns in a methodical, prepared, and prioritized approach
• Providing area communication support and expertise to enhance local area communication related needs
• Maintaining provincial resource support systems such as the Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition system, Remote Camera systems, Lightning Locator Processor, Remote Automated Weather Stations, and the Firenet Data network
• Supporting the Area and Provincial Telecom and Facilities unit by staying informed and up to date in the technical industry, maintaining a clean and safe work area, and being active on area and provincial standby rosters for outages and incident support
As a Wildfire Communication Technician, you would play a critical and vital role in ensuring Forestry staff, along with other ministry and municipal government staff, have the appropriate and dependable telecommunication platforms during wildfires, natural disasters, local emergencies, and daily operations.
