Introduction

The Department of Families is currently seeking skilled and motivated individuals to fill various Child and Family Service Worker (Case Worker) positions. Winnipeg Child and Family Services (WCFS) provides a comprehensive continuum of child protection and family support services in Winnipeg in accordance with The Child and Family Services Act and The Adoption Act. Winnipeg Child and Family Services partners with community resources to provide supportive and preventative services to families; provides protection services to children at risk of abuse and neglect; develops and provides basic and specialized placement services to meet the needs of children in care; provides preservation and reunification services to families; and provides adoptive and post-adoptive services along with guardianship responsibilities to children, youth and families when reunification is no longer an option.

Conditions of Employment: Must be legally entitled to work in Canada Must provide a current satisfactory Criminal Record Check with a Vulnerable Sector Search Must provide a current and satisfactory Child Abuse Registry Check  Must provide a current and satisfactory Adult Abuse Registry Check Must provide a current and satisfactory Prior Contact Check Must have and maintain a valid Manitoba Class 5F Driver’s license and access to a vehicle with the ability to travel on government business within the Province of Manitoba Must be available to work evenings, weekends, statutory holidays and the after hours stand-by rotation when required  Qualifications: Essential: Ability to identify signs of child abuse and neglect Effective interpersonal skills to develop positive working relationships with clients, colleagues and stakeholders Strong time management and organizational skills with the ability to prioritize complex tasks/assignments in a high volume work environment with competing demands Excellent problem solving and decision making skills Effective written communication skills to write clear and concise correspondence to a variety of audiences including detailed reports Strong verbal communication skills with the ability to effectively communicate or deliver difficult messages or information to clients Ability to work independently Proficiency with MS Office applications (Word and Outlook)
Desired: Case management experience (including intakes, assessments, service coordination, counselling, and monitoring) in a social service setting, course practicum experience in a social service setting and/or knowledge of case management Experience working in a child and family services agency or social services agency Knowledge of the Child and Family Services Act Knowledge and understanding of child development  Duties: Reporting to the Unit Supervisor, the Child and Family Services Worker (case manager) is responsible for the full range of statutory child welfare services to families and children. The position establishes and maintains effective working relationships with individuals and families, and service providers often under difficult circumstances. At the full working level (SP4), the successful candidate will perform a range of duties that include: intake, conducting abuse investigations, developing case plans to ensure child safety, coordinating support services, working with collateral community agencies, assisting with after-hour services to children and families. You will play a key role in the management of protection, voluntary family service and child in care cases. Candidates who do not meet the full working level will be considered as an underfill.
