Role Responsibilities

Senior Policy Advisor, Capital Policy:

Reporting to the Director of Continuing Care Home Policy, this Senior Policy Advisor will work with intra-and interdepartmental government branches, Alberta Health Services and other relevant stakeholders to research, identify options and support the implementation of approved changes to Alberta’s continuing care capital and capital planning policy. This Senior Policy Advisor will also work closely with counterparts in the Health Facilities Planning Branch as they are responsible for the development of a strategy to review and address aging infrastructure and implement approved capital grant funding programs. The Advisor will use up to date evidence and approaches used by other leading jurisdictions, input from key stakeholders, and approved strategic policy directions and initiatives to provide capital policy and capacity planning policy alternatives and strategic advice. Policy directions and already approved action plans will be the source of focus including but not limited to: Continuing Care Transformation (Budget 2023-26), the Facility Based Continuing Care Review, policies found within Alberta’s proposed updated legislative framework, and the Auditor General’s 2023 report focused on the response to COVID-19 in continuing care facilities.

Senior Policy Advisor, Funding Models:

Reporting to the Director of Continuing Care Home Policy, this Senior Policy Advisor will work with intra-and interdepartmental government branches, Alberta Health Services and other relevant stakeholders to research, identify options and support the implementation of approved changes to Alberta’s continuing care funding models (spanning home and community care and continuing care homes). This Senior Policy Advisor will also work closely with the Continuing Care Division, Director of System Funding. The Advisor will use up to date evidence and approaches used by other leading jurisdictions, input from key stakeholders, and approved strategic policy directions and initiatives to provide funding model policy alternatives and strategic advice. Policy directions and already approved action plans will be the source of focus including but not limited to: Continuing Care Transformation (Budget 2023-26), the Facility Based Continuing Care Review (Policy Direction 12) and policies found within Alberta’s proposed updated legislative framework (e.g., Ministerial Regulation, Resident Accommodation Charges).
