Role Responsibilities

The Restoration Foreman plays a crucial role in ensuring the successful execution of construction, restoration, and maintenance projects at historic properties owned by the Government of Alberta. Reporting to the designated Heritage Conservation Technologist (HCT) of the Conservation and Construction Services Program (CCS), this position involves both hands-on and supervisory duties in planning, executing, and inspecting such projects. Responsibilities include assigning and overseeing tasks within the CCS Program's in-house work crew of tradespeople and craftsmen. Additionally, the position entails monitoring and inspecting the specialized historic building trades and crafts performed by hired contractors, with feedback provided to the HCT. Moreover, the position is tasked with managing all aspects of the restoration workshop.

This position performs hands on work on a variety of contemporary and traditional trades and crafts in the development and maintenance of these historic resources to ensure their preservation. The protection, preservation and presentation of these historic resources are divisional core business objectives. This position also manages all aspects of the restoration workshop, including administration and purchasing.

Key Responsibilities:

Assigns and supervises the work of the restoration tradesmen, craftsmen, and labourers. Manages the Historic Resources Management Branch, restoration workshop located at the Ukrainian Cultural Heritage Village. Manages CCS Crew, temporary staff, interns, and volunteers  Ensures period craft and trades skills are utilized on projects. Assists in project planning. Performs historic restoration. Performs Cyclical Preventative Maintenance.
