As a Personal Support Worker (PSW) at UHN, you will be part of a dynamic and interprofessional team that provides high-quality care to patients with complex needs.

About the Role

The PSW is a vital member of the healthcare team, responsible for providing direct care to patients with activities of daily living, such as feeding, bathing, and toileting. You will work closely with registered nurses and other healthcare professionals to ensure that patients receive comprehensive and compassionate care.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist patients with activities of daily living, including feeding, lifts and transfers, bathing, skin care, oral hygiene, and toileting.
  • Perform tasks delegated by an RN or RPN in compliance with the RHPA, for which appropriate education and training has been completed.
  • Communicate and demonstrate basic information in accordance with a patient's pre-established Plan of Care.
  • Ensure a safe environment for patients and staff by reporting and documenting unsafe conditions.
  • Complete and maintain related patient records and progress notes, as per hospital policy.
Requirements
  • Education: Successful completion of a PSW program from an accredited community college.
  • Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) Certificate.
  • Behavioral management training (such as PIECES, U-First, CPI) is considered an asset.
  • Ability to handle daily mild to moderate physical exertion.
  • Acute care and/or previous rehab experience considered an asset.
  • Good attendance record is required.
