Construction Worker

This position performs manual work to assist and support skilled tradespersons and performs labouring activities at construction sites and property maintenance activities.
Primary Responsibilities:
Material Handling and Transportation
Load and unload construction materials
Move materials to work areas
Remove rubble and other debris at construction sites using rakes, shovels, wheelbarrows and other equipment
Construction Support
Erect and dismantle concrete forms, scaffolding, ramps, catwalks, shoring and barricades
Mix, pour and spread materials such as concrete and asphalt
Assist tradespersons such as carpenters, bricklayers, cement finishers, roofers and glaziers in construction activities
Assist with drywall and framing installation
Assist with painting and taping
Assist heavy equipment operators to secure special attachments to equipment, signal operators to guide them in moving equipment and provide assistance in other activities
Assist in aligning pipes and perform related activities during oil and gas pipeline construction
Assist in drilling and blasting rock at construction sites
Level earth to fine grade specifications using rake and shovel
Assist in demolishing buildings using prying bars and other tools, and sort, clean and pile salvaged materials
Equipment Operation and Maintenance
Assist heavy equipment operators with equipment attachments, signal operators to guide them in moving equipment and provide assistance in other activities
Operate pneumatic hammers, vibrators and tampers as directed
Tend or feed machines or equipment used in construction such as mixers, compressors and pumps
Oil and grease hoists and similar equipment
Safety and Environmental Compliance
Clean up chemical spills and other contaminants
Remove asbestos and other hazardous materials
Direct traffic at or near construction sites
Other Tasks
Assist with window installation, window production and preparation on site
Perform regular maintenance of door hardware and accessories
Perform other activities at construction sites, as directed.
Requirements:
High School Diploma or equivalent is desirable.
Knowledge of general construction methods and practices
Mechanically inclined, familiarity with hand tools and construction equipment.
Solid organization and problem-solving skills.
First aid, fall arrest and WHMIS certifications an asset
