About the Role

The Ontario Native Women's Association (ONWA) is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Housing Worker to join our team. As a Housing Worker, you will play a critical role in advocating and supporting Indigenous people who are at risk of homelessness throughout the province.

Key Responsibilities
  • Advocate and support Indigenous people in finding and maintaining affordable and sustainable housing
  • Act as a liaison with various government agencies, including Ontario Works and the Ontario Disability Support Program
  • Provide support and guidance to Indigenous people in navigating mental health, addiction, and housing systems
  • Develop and maintain relationships with community members, service agencies, and other stakeholders
  • Collaborate with the Nihdawin Program team to provide wraparound supports and services to Indigenous people
Requirements
  • Post-secondary diploma/degree in social work, indigenous learning, or a related field
  • Minimum three (3) years' work experience in community service delivery
  • Knowledge of housing systems and experience in advocacy
  • Strong communication and facilitation skills
  • Ability to create and maintain a confidential, welcoming, and safe environment for community members
  • Valid G Class Driver's License and access to a reliable vehicle with appropriate insurance
  • Current, valid vulnerable sector criminal records check
  • Valid 1st Aid/CPR certification
  • Ability to work flexible hours and travel as required
