We are currently seeking a Freight Clerk to join our team. The Freight Clerk will play a pivotal role in our logistics operations, overseeing the efficient movement of inbound and outbound shipments. Utilizing specialized software, the Freight Clerk conducts freight shopping, ensuring accurate rates and collaborating closely with warehouse teams to address issues and analyze carrier performance.

Duties and Responsibilities :

  • Your main responsibility will to be freight shopping all inbound and out bound freight shipment via our preferred carrier. You will use a freight shopping software to provide rates.
  • You will be expected to verify accurate rates for all shipments for either incoming or outgoing shipments.
  • You will work closely with local warehouse teams to ensure any problems, damages , missed appointments or anomalies are corrected. This will involve analyzing data using power BI to report how carriers perform.
  • Arranging for the shipping and delivery of materials is also a fundamental element of the role. This will involve understanding the best shipping methods for materials, knowledge of shipping procedures, routes and rate.
  • You are also responsible for calculating charges, storage space and demurrage charges.

Qualification Requirements :

  • Jobs in Freight Forwarding, usually require good GCSE/A-Level results, especially in subjects such as Maths and English.(preferred)
  • A general understanding of how freight companies rate shipments, accessorial charges and FSC (fuel surcharges) is an asset.
  • As a Freight Clerk, you would need to be a good communicator, in particular, experience in dealing with branch & divisional staff and knowledge and understanding of customer service would be an advantage.
  • Excellent clerical skills are required as being able to manage files and records as well as general office skills is vital to this role. In particular, the role of Freight Clerk requires a good sound understanding of mathematics.
  • Depending upon the role and level of responsibility, you may also be required to have a sound understanding of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, HR, managing people and leadership.
  • The post holder must be familiar with computer programs such as Microsoft Word, Excel, etc.
