The opportunity

Tata Steel Minerals Canada is currently seeking Mining Laborers to join their highly skilled team to work on a Fly-in/Fly-out basis of 2 weeks On/Off to and from the Menihek region in Labrador, near the town of Schefferville, QC. Operations at our mine site are running 24/7 all year long. Standard work schedules are 12 hours per day.

The main pick-up points are St. John's, Gander, Deer Lake, Happy Valley-Goose Bay and Wabush in NL, Halifax, NS, Moncton, NB, and Montreal, QC.

Reporting to the Mine Auxiliary Services Supervisor, the responsibility of the laborer is to assist the mining team when required and carry out dewatering tasks.

Duties Responsibilities
Follow Safety Procedures: Adhere strictly to safety guidelines and protocols to minimize the risk of accidents or injuries in the workplace.Comply with Regulations: Ensure compliance with environmental regulations, company policies, and government regulations related to mining operations.Assist in Mining Operations: Provide support to mining activities such as drilling, blasting, excavation, and transportation of materials.Water Management: Manage dewatering activities in pits and around site.Handle Tools and Supplies: Use hand tools, shovels, and other equipment as required for mining tasks.Clean Work Areas: Keep work areas clean and organized to maintain a safe and efficient working environment.Clean Equipment, Light Vehicles, and Vans: Keep vehicles and shift change vans clean and clean equipment cabs when not in use.Load and Unload Materials: Assist in the loading and unloading of materials onto trucks for transportation within the mine site.Operate Machinery: Operate machinery such as forklifts, front-end loaders, excavators, and bulldozers as needed, following proper training and safety procedures.Support Team Members: Collaborate with other team members to accomplish daily tasks and goals effectively.Other duties and tasks as required.

To fulfill these responsibilities, you will be expected to manage and handle the following working conditions; A fast-paced environment, handling heavy loads (at least 50 pounds), physically demanding, attention to detail, hand-eye co-ordination, combination of sitting, standing, walking, bending, crouching, kneeling.

Experience & Qualifications
Valid class 5 driver's license.High School Diploma or equivalent.Previous experience in mining industry or in a similar role preferrable.Previous experience with mine dewatering and operating pumps.Physical stamina and the ability to perform strenuous tasks in challenging environments.Experience operating Cat 950 loader and JD 470 excavator beneficial.Effective communication skills in English. Bilingualism is considered an asset.

Technical Competencies & Skills
Must be able to work 12-hour day and night shifts for 14 to 21 days at a time.Must be able to work in a remote environment in harsh conditions. Ability to lift heavy objects and perform physically demanding tasks for extended periods.Excellent safety and attendance record.Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety.Willingness to learn.Must have a positive attitude, ability to work well within a team, and treat all employees with respect.
