Molecular Lab Intern – Summer Position

LabTech at the Center for Aquaculture Technologies Canada (CATC) is excited to announce a summer opportunity for a dedicated and enthusiastic Molecular Lab Intern. This is a temporary, full-time summer position, beginning May 1st. If you are a dynamic individual with a strong foundation in biology or chemistry and a passion for laboratory work, we invite you to join our team in Souris, PE.

The Center for Aquaculture Technologies Canada (CATC) is an R&D and contract service organization focused on the application of biotechnologies to improve productivity, efficiency and sustainability in aquaculture and related industries. The company combines extensive experience in aquaculture with a strong background in aquatic animal health, nutrition, and molecular biology to provide research‐based solutions. Includes two facilities in Souris and Victoria with 67,000 square feet of aquatic animal research space and includes expansive, purpose-built wet and dry labs areas. The wet lab area are AQC1/2/3 (Aquatic Animal Containment) certified to provide services in drug approvals, vaccine testing, Batch release, and evaluation of feed ingredients. Operations includes pilot-scale feed extruder.

Key Responsibilities:

• Sample Preparation and Analysis: Handling, preparing, and analyzing samples for various molecular biology experiments.
• Data Collection and Documentation: Accurately recording experimental data and observations in lab notebooks or digital platforms.
• Laboratory Equipment Operation and Maintenance: Operating and maintaining laboratory equipment such as centrifuges, thermocyclers, and other molecular biology instruments. This might also include troubleshooting minor issues and ensuring cleanliness and proper functioning of the lab space.
• Data Analysis and Reporting: Assisting in the analysis of experimental data and contributing to the preparation of reports and presentations.
• Quality Control: Maintaining compliance with CATC and external regulator policies. Produce and record data adhering to GxP standards. Report any deviations from Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and studies.
  
  

Qualifications & Skills:

• Current enrollment or recent completion of introductory courses in Biology and/or Chemistry.
• Physical ability to handle routine and repetitive tasks, including cleaning of experimental systems, bending, and lifting.
• Proven ability to work both independently and as part of a team, demonstrating self-motivation and initiative.
• Excellent organizational skills with the ability to work effectively under deadlines.
• Willingness to learn new techniques and adhere to laboratory protocols.

Compensation:

• Starting salary of $17/hour, which may vary depending on experience.
