Adult Outpatient Therapist

We are seeking a skilled Clinical Therapist to join our team at Nova Scotia Health Authority. As a member of our multi-disciplinary team, you will be responsible for delivering time-limited, evidence-based psycho-social assessments and treatments to adults with Tier-3 mental disorders and Substance Use Disorders.
The ideal candidate will have a Master's Degree in a clinical health-related discipline and current registration with a relevant provincial regulatory body. You will have a minimum of two years' related experience, including assessment and planning, treatment and intervention, and discharge planning.
You will be expected to act in a professional and ethical manner, following all recognized codes of ethics, standards, legislation, and guidelines relevant to clinical practice and profession. You will convey respect and a solid understanding of subtle and complex diversity and inclusion issues as they relate to specific groups.
We are looking for a candidate who is able to take initiative, work independently with limited supervision, and participate as a member of a multidisciplinary team. You will have basic competencies in relation to identifying and treating concurrent mental health and substance use disorders, as well as experience in interviewing, counseling, and teaching health concepts to individuals, families, and groups.
The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering services within a Stepped Care framework and will be guided by disorder-based clinical care pathways. You will participate in a consultation group to ensure collegial support, accountability, and effectiveness of assessments and treatments.
About YouWe are looking for a candidate who has the following qualifications and experience:
- Master's Degree in a clinical health-related discipline
- Current registration with a relevant provincial regulatory body
- Minimum two years' related experience, including assessment and planning, treatment and intervention, and discharge planning
- In-depth and critical understanding of the principles of harm reduction, the dynamics of addiction, and evidence-based interventions for the treatment of addiction
- Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of standard criteria used for the classification and diagnosis of mental health disorders
- Demonstrated knowledge and skills in individual/group cognitive behavioral therapy as well as psycho-educational groups
- Demonstrated knowledge and skills in crisis intervention, suicide, and violence risk assessment/intervention
- Demonstrated ability to take initiative, work independently with limited supervision, and participate as a member of a multidisciplinary team
- Basic competencies in relation to identifying and treating concurrent mental health and substance use disorders
- Experience in interviewing, counseling, and teaching health concepts to individuals, families, and groups
- Demonstrated knowledge and skills in collaborating with families in relation to sharing information, and implementing family-sensitive services that involve families in the care and recovery of people living with mental illness and addiction
- Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred
This is a Temporary Full Time position, with 75 hours bi-weekly. The approximate duration of the position is 12 months, with dates subject to change.
