About Us

The Department of Public Works is responsible for ensuring road safety for the Province of Nova Scotia. We are recruiting for a Motor Vehicle Inspector 2 (Compliance Station Inspector) to help us achieve this goal.

About the Opportunity

As a Motor Vehicle Inspector 2 (Compliance Station Inspector), you will interact with the commercial trucking industry to ensure the safety of all road users and protect the highway infrastructure of Nova Scotia.

Primary Accountabilities
  • Verify vehicle compliance with the Motor Vehicle Act and any Regulations that deal with commercial vehicles.
  • Conduct vehicle mechanical and document inspections, under the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance guidelines.
  • Ensure compliance with National Safety Code requirements and Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance Standards.
Qualifications and Experience
  • High School Diploma or equivalent plus seven years of related experience in commercial transportation, vehicle repair or vehicle inspection.
  • Appropriate accreditation such as Red Seal endorsements in truck/bus transport repair and/or automobile service technician certification.
  • Good working knowledge of computer use including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and other applications.
  • Effective communication skills both verbal and in writing.

  • Must have a proven track record of managing highly stressful situations in an extremely fast-paced environment.
  • May be exposed to fumes, scents, allergens, and adverse weather conditions.
  • May include long hours driving including highway patrol activities.
