Job Title: Senior Rock Mechanics Consultant

Okane Consultants is seeking a highly skilled Senior Rock Mechanics Consultant to join our team. As a key member of our geotechnical team, you will provide technical oversight and leadership to our current and future geotechnical projects.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide leadership, training, and technical guidance to the underground mine geotechnical team and other technical disciplines.
  • Conduct advanced geotechnical engineering assessments and provide senior technical input to project teams.
  • Develop and implement conceptual models in support of closure plan development and design.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to integrate geotechnical considerations into overall project design.
  • Review geotechnical investigations to support tailings and mine projects.
  • Prepare and review advanced technical documentation and reports.
  • Assist in developing integrated closure plans, including cost estimation and construction sequencing.
  • Project management, including managing budget, scope, and schedule.
Requirements:
  • Strong understanding of soil mechanics, fundamental knowledge of geotechnical design, slope stability, soil-structure interaction, groundwater, seepage, and drainage.
  • Proven experience in underground mining, rock mechanics, and tailings is considered an asset.
  • Demonstrated critical thinking skills for leadership at both the strategic and tactical levels.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills and experience with writing and reviewing proposals, technical reports, and/or regulatory submissions.
  • Strong project management skills.
  • Operational or closure experience within the mining industry is considered an asset.
  • Strong working knowledge of regulatory and legislative frameworks.
  • Ability and willingness to coordinate with staff and clients in different time zones.
  • Experience using relevant software packages such as GeoStudio.
  • Experience building and leading a team through managing, motivating, and influencing is considered an asset.
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize, consider alternatives, and respond quickly and effectively to unexpected and changing conditions.
  • Bachelor's or (preferably) post-graduate degree in Geotechnical (Civil or Geological) Engineering and a Licensed Professional Engineer and the willingness to act as an Engineer of Record.
