Reporting to the Engineering Manager or Project Manager, the Project Engineer is responsible for the delivery of specific scopes of work in support of the Project Manager, Engineering Manager or Area Manager. This position is located in Teck's Calgary or Vancouver office, with a component of remote work.

Responsibilities:

  • Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
  • Develop the Scope of Work (SOW) for the Engineering Work Packages (EWP)
  • Lead or attend weekly project update meetings and ensure minutes are kept and distributed
  • Coordinate with project team to ensure the requirements of Health and Safety, Occupational Hygiene, Risk and FM Global, Innovation and Technology, SERA, and Value Improvement Practices are understood
  • Develop and manage the Project master schedule, the Project Decision Log, the Project Staffing Plan and the issues and actions log showing decisions and information required to maintain the schedule
  • Prepare lists of deliverables for the project in conjunction with Discipline Leads
  • Communicate evaluations and technical decisions to the Project Manager
  • Develop Functional Criteria and a Design Basis in support of the Design Criteria
  • Ensure the engineering compliance to the Design Basis
  • Develop and sustain relationships with the Service Provider, Teck Project Development Group, and operating staff
  • Coordinate engineering work between disciplines and between the engineering group and other project groups
  • Review the work of the Discipline Leads in the preparation of technical decisions and information required to maintain the schedule
  • Monitor the progress and performance of Design Scope and taking corrective action to control engineering work within budget and schedule
  • Monitor Project Scope and use the project-specific Change Management Process to confirm changes to the Project Manager
  • Report non-conformances, incidents, and participating in investigations as management may require
  • Understanding of concepts of "fit for purpose" and "value engineering" with demonstrated application

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline or equivalent is preferred
  • Minimum five years of project or engineering experience in project or construction management roles on major infrastructure, mining and/or process plant project implementation is required
  • Project experience as an owner's team representative or as an EPCM contractor
  • Training and experience in project management systems and an understanding of multiple phases of project execution
  • Basic understanding and experience in aspects of project controls, scope management, quality management
  • Budgeting and resource management and planning experience is an asset
  • Proficient in Microsoft Project, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook

Salary Range: $ $95.00/ hour

The actual base salary offered is determined based on the successful candidate's relevant experience, skills, and competencies and considers internal equity.

Successful candidates must be willing to satisfy the pre-employment requirements of a pre-employment drug screen and three professional references.
