Job ProfileThere is a temporary opening for the above position within Recreation Services, Community Services Department available immediately. Reporting to the Supervisor of Recreation - Aquatics, Youth Leisure, this position will provide leadership and support to contract, part-time and volunteer support staff and ensures quality program delivery and excellent customer service to meet current and changing needs of the community. The primary function will include Aquatics with secondary areas of focus including Active Living (may include dance, racquet, fitness, outdoor education, general interest, preschool), Arts and Sport Allocation.
What you will be doing- In collaboration with Human Resources and the AYL Supervisor, recruit, train, schedule and provide ongoing leadership, coaching and recognition to part-time staff and volunteers
- Adhere to governing legislations and regulations; corporate, departmental and divisional policies, procedures, standards and guidelines; governing body's standards and guidelines
- In collaboration with Human Resources and the Supervisor, develop and deliver proactive and strategic recruitment and retention plans for part-time staff and volunteers
- Evaluate training needs and oversee staff training, orientations and meetings
- Verification and input part-time payroll entry in accordance with staff schedules
- Incident/accident reporting and communication, sessional reporting of program capacities on collection and analysis of data, customer satisfaction, revenue and expenses
- Purchase and manage inventory and functionality of pool safety equipment, materials, uniforms, and supplies
- Proactive planning of upcoming sessions including seasonal pool programming
- Ensure program plans are created, communicated, and available for all program staff
- Documentation of staff and volunteer training; ongoing monitoring of staff certifications, maintaining staff files, and ensuring staff certifications remain current
- Actively support the customer registration process, monitoring waitlists and make recommendations as needed
- Champion customer service experience through timely and appropriate follow-up with customer concerns, requests, and inquiries
- Empower and mentor all part-time staff to provide excellent customer service through staff training and role modeling positive welcoming behavior
- Liaise with internal and external groups as required related to programs and services
- Deliver strategies to increase customer recruitment and retention through continuous improvement of customer experience
- Ongoing research, acquiring knowledge and expertise related to industry trends, including assisting with benchmarking and comparisons
- Lead the planning, development and execution of aquatic and leadership programs, services and initiatives, including inclusive opportunities
- Liaise with internal and external peers, to ensure complementary and consistent delivery of programs
- Conduct program evaluations and ongoing site visits, observations, and customer engagement regularly throughout each program session
- Execute action plans to meet targets and future growth and development
- Monitor and report on expenses, revenue actuals, and forecasts according to portfolio
- Skill and efficiency in the use and navigation of Microsoft Suite
Two year College Diploma in Recreation and Leisure
Experience and Knowledge- A minimum of two (2) to three (3) years experience in a similar environment, including supervisory experience

- QUEST 2
- Bronze Cross Examiner
- First Aid Instructor/Examiner
- National Lifeguard Instructor/Examiner
- Lifesaving Society Instructor Trainer
- Aquatic Fitness Certification (e.g. YMCA, CALA, Water Art or equivalent) or willing to obtain within 3 to 6 months
- Valid Ontario Class G Driver's License and have access to a vehicle
This position is within Grade 8 of the inside workers union Salary Schedule and has an hourly range of $40.00 to $42.52.
Location of positionJohn Dolson Centre - 212 South St, Cambridge.
Hours of workThe current regular hours of work are in accordance with the CUPE 1882 Inside Worker's Collective Agreement, (35 hours per week), Monday to Sunday, and may be scheduled between 6:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m.
