POSITION OVERVIEW
Dive into an exciting opportunity with the Maple Ridge as a member of our team, the incumbent will be at the forefront of planning, developing, and leading a wide range of engaging aquatic programs and activities. Recreation Programmer – Aquatics role will involve coordinating operations at both our indoor aquatic center and seasonal outdoor pool, as well as actively promoting our diverse program offerings. You'll have the chance to provide guidance to our dedicated staff and volunteers, participate in recruitment and training efforts, and ensure seamless patron experiences. Additionally, in the absence of a superior, the incumbent will step up to ensure uninterrupted operations within established parameters. This role calls for a keen sense of independent judgment and action, all while adhering to established policies and procedures. The incumbent contributions will be valued and recognized, with performance feedback geared towards enhancing the effectiveness and quality of the services we provide. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Completion of a post-secondary program in Recreation or related field at a recognized institution and sound related experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIESSound knowledge of the principles, practices objectives and administration of aquatic recreation programs and events with a particular emphasis in lifeguarding and program instruction areas.Sound knowledge of the theory and practices of lifesaving, lifeguarding, first aid and teaching techniques pertaining to aquatics.Sound knowledge of programming requirements, aquatic standards, and leadership methods.Working knowledge of the rules, regulations, procedures, and policies governing the work performed and of modern office methods and procedures.Working knowledge of pool chemistry, water filtration, chlorinating, heating and related pool equipment and operating procedures and maintenance requirements of such equipment.Ability to plan, develop, coordinate, evaluate and promote programs, services, and events to meet the identified needs and interests of target populations and to provide leadership and instruction on same, as required.Ability to participate in recruitment, training, evaluation and supervision of staff and volunteers and to assist in the direction of contract service partners.Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a wide variety of internal and external contacts and groups and the general public.Ability to take initiative, exercise judgement and to work independently in the development, coordination and implementation of programs and events.Ability to act for a superior for short absences and with defined limits.Ability to participate in preparation of program budgets, to monitor expenditures and revenue and conduct programs within budget allocations and to evaluate, prepare statistics and compile reports on same.Ability to prepare oral and written reports, to prepare and maintain correspondence, records, reports, promotional material and to perform related clerical tasks, as required.
LICENCES AND CERTIFICATESClass 5 Driver's Licence for the Province of British Columbia.National Lifeguard Pool Certificate.Lifesaving Instructor Certificate.Swim Instructor CertificateLifesaving Society Swim Instructor Trainer Certificate or National Lifeguard Instructor Certificate.Standard First Aid with CPR Level "C"/AED Certificate.Pool Operator Level 1 Certificate.
