Canadian Pacific and Kansas City Southern have merged to form CPKC, a North American railway with a 20,000-mile network. The company is seeking an Assistant Trainmaster to support the efficient movement of traffic within the road territory and yard-terminal.

The Assistant Trainmaster will be responsible for developing, coordinating, and ensuring the daily yard-terminal/road operating plan is completed in a safe and cost-effective manner. This will involve coordinating all train movements within the yard and mainline, providing leadership accountability for safety, service, productivity, and financial metrics, and effectively leading trains and engines operating employees.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate train movements within the yard and mainline through active supervision of personnel and communication across departments
  • Develop and standardize processes related to operating plan, arrival, classification, building, inspecting, and dispatching of trains
  • Provide leadership accountability for safety, service, productivity, and financial metrics
  • Effectively lead trains and engines operating employees through active observations and discussions about rule compliance
  • Occasionally operate trains and maintain certifications and licenses as per industry regulations
  • Assist in crew transportation to and from trains

Requirements:

  • Previous railway experience as a conductor and locomotive engineer qualification is an asset
  • 2 years' previous supervisory experience in logistics or an operational environment is preferred
  • Available to work all types of shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays in all weather conditions
  • Leadership presence with a drive and commitment to career advancement
  • Strong troubleshooting skills and ability to drill down to understand root cause and resolve complex issues
  • Demonstrate flexibility and adaptability to changing task priorities and work situations
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to provide clear and concise instructions/directions
  • Read and understand safety instructions, operating rules, regulations, and other written or printed material in English
  • High school diploma/general equivalency diploma, required
  • Valid driver's license, required
  • Proficient in MS Office Outlook, Word, and Excel
