This is skilled mechanical work at the journeyman level in the maintenance and repair of automotive and heavy duty equipment.
An incumbent performs general mechanical overhaul and maintenance work on a wide variety of automotive, construction and maintenance equipment such as backhoe-loaders, motors, graders, trucks, and diesel and gas engines; troubleshoots and repairs hydraulic, electrical and brake systems; may occasionally supervise the work of equipment operators or assistants engaged in the overhaul or repair of mobile equipment; uses standard tune-up equipment for internal combustion engines.
Performs related work as required.
Qualifications include completion of Grade 12 supplemented by the completion of a recognized Trade Certificate of Qualification plus considerable general experience at the Journeyman level; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
Thorough knowledge of the standard practices, materials, tools and equipment used in the maintenance and repair of automotive and heavy duty equipment; considerable knowledge of hazards and safety precautions of the trade.
Ability to perform a variety of skilled tasks in the overhaul, repair and adjustment of a variety of automotive and related equipment; to lay out, assign and check the work of assistants performing unskilled and semi-skilled mechanical tasks.
Skill in the use and care of equipment and tools employed in repairing and adjusting automotive equipment.A valid Driver's Licence for the Province of British Columbia, Class 3 with Air Brake Endorsement, Certificate of Qualification – Mechanic, and Authorized Inspector License Commercial Vehicle Safety and Enforcement (CVSE) are all required for this position.
