Addictions Counsellor I - Flexible Assertive Community Treatment Team (FACT)
Mental Health and Addictions Services, Corner Brook, NL

Duties: The Addictions Counsellor is an integral member of the Flexible Assertive Community Treatment Team (FACT) that provides intensive mobile services to individuals with severe and persistent mental illness and concurrent related complexities of mental health issues/disorders. With team members and the client, this position is responsible for providing comprehensive client assessments and support to individuals in establishing personal recovery plans as well as short and long-term goals. The incumbent will educate and engage clients to manage risk factors associated with substance use, link clients with substance use treatment services, advocate on behalf of clients, and provide after-hours support in conjunction with the FACT team. The successful applicant will consult and work in partnership with local employers, service providers and community agencies in the provision of service to clients of the FACT team. This work is performed independently with strong links to community stakeholders and other staff within the FACT team.

Required Qualifications: Candidates must have proven ability in the areas of assessment, crisis intervention, treatment plan development, and problem solving, follow-up, and community development. Good communication and interpersonal skills are essential as well as the ability to work in the community within a multi-disciplinary team environment. The required knowledge and abilities for the Addictions Counsellor I position would normally have been acquired through progressively responsible experience in individual, group, and family counseling in the area of addictions and mental health. A Master's Degree of Social Work preferred, or a Bachelor of Social Work, or a Master's Degree of Clinical Psychology, or a Graduate Degree in a clinical discipline with experience in an addictions or mental health setting is required. The ability to work shift work, weekends and to be available on-call and use of a private vehicle are conditions of employment. Candidates must be eligible for registration within their profession. Travel throughout the region will be required.

Hours of Work: 75 Hours per pay period

Salary Scale: $37.20 to $41.63 per Hour
