Job Summary:

Plumber/Steamfitter required to maintain, install, inspect, troubleshoot, calibrate, and repair plumbing, steam, heating, and cooling systems in a multi-site team environment.

About the Job:

The National Research Council (NRC) is seeking a skilled Plumber/Steamfitter to join our Real Property Planning and Management (RPPM) Branch in Halifax. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for maintaining, installing, inspecting, troubleshooting, calibrating, and repairing a wide range of plumbing, steam, heating, and cooling systems.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Maintain, install, inspect, troubleshoot, calibrate, and repair plumbing, steam, heating, and cooling systems
  • Work independently and as part of a team to support other trades on-site
  • Perform daily facility walkthroughs for inspection and condition monitoring of equipment and all building systems
  • Comply with all OHSE and other federal, provincial, and municipal laws, codes, and regulations
  • Work on-call on rotation and be able to respond and be on site within the space of an hour
Requirements:
  • Secondary School Diploma according to provincial standards
  • Licensed Steamfitter 307A or an equivalent inter-provincial Red Seal Journeymen's Certificate of Qualification
  • Significant experience maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing plumbing, steam, condensate, heating, and ventilation systems
  • Basic experience providing estimate for the materials and repair work of pipe systems
  • Significant experience conducting daily facility walkthroughs for inspection and condition monitoring of equipment and all building systems
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Red Seal certification
  • WHMIS certification
  • Working at Heights certification
  • Confined Space certification
  • Designated Substances Awareness certification
  • First Aid Level certification
Working Conditions:

The successful candidate must be able to possess and retain the physical capabilities to perform the position, including but not limited to: crouching, bending, twisting, walking, climbing stairs & ladders, ability to hear to diagnose mechanical troubles, and the ability to handle heavy and bulky objects.

Assessment Criteria:
  • Solid working knowledge of servicing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing plumbing, heating, and cooling distribution systems and equipment
  • Solid working knowledge of performing maintenance, repairs, and alterations of steam, condensate, compressed gases, chilled water, and specialty mechanical distribution systems
  • Solid knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions
  • Solid understanding of tools, equipment, principles, materials, and terminology associated with the steam fitting/plumbing trade
Compensation:

Salary under review. From $65,546 to $71,124 per annum.

  • Must be able to work evenings, weekends, and holidays if requested
  • Must work on-call on rotation and be able to respond and be on site within the space of an hour
  • A pre-qualified list may be established for similar positions for a one-year period
