The Opportunity

This role is based in Ottawa, Ontario, within Abbott's Point of Care Diagnostics division. Here, we focus on empowering informed medical and economic decisions to revolutionize healthcare management across all life stages. Every day, Abbott's diagnostic instruments conduct over 10 million tests, delivering critical lab results to millions.

Within our Point of Care diagnostic portfolio, we address key health areas such as infectious disease, cardiometabolic conditions, informatics, and toxicology. We are currently seeking a Supervisor for Assembly Operations at our Ottawa site. In this pivotal role, you will oversee day shift operations in a clean room setting, aiming to enhance safety, product quality, and operational efficiency to drive positive outcomes for the business.

What You'll Do

  • Ensure team compliance with internal health and safety regulations and laws.
  • Foster a culture where Health and Safety are paramount for all team members.
  • Implement strategies to reduce safety incidents in the production environment.
  • Execute production plans to meet targets while maximizing efficiency and maintaining quality standards.
  • Translate company objectives into actionable goals for the team.
  • Lead cross-functional initiatives to address operational challenges.
  • Manage staffing, scheduling, and material flow for optimal production output.
  • Devote 75% of work hours to on-site presence in manufacturing areas.
  • Drive continuous improvement and efficiency enhancements.
  • Develop and deliver training programs to support business objectives.
  • Promote teamwork, individual accountability, and performance targets alignment.
  • Cultivate a culture of learning, innovation, and collaboration.
  • Provide ongoing mentorship and support to employees.
  • Collaborate with other departments to resolve manufacturing issues.
  • Ensure adherence to quality standards and address nonconformances promptly.
  • Conduct regular performance evaluations and offer career development guidance.
  • Hold focused discussions with employees on their contributions and achievements.
  • Perform any other duties as needed.
  • Shift schedule: 4X4 A extended rotation, working four days on and four days off from 6:30 am to 6:30 pm.

Required Qualifications

  • Preferably hold a post-secondary degree, especially in Engineering or a related technical field.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in manufacturing or laboratory settings.
  • Knowledge of medical device manufacturing and related regulations is a plus.
  • Proficiency in interpreting technical documents, drawings, and utilizing various software applications.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and leadership skills.
  • Ability to make quick decisions in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Dedication to continuous learning and product improvement.
